Moments before
Zeek hurried to catch the closing elevator door but he was too late. He looked up and saw a sign saying "Staff Elevator". He chuckled to himself nervously then made his way to the patient elevator. Zeek was anxious to bring his baby girl home and it showed.
Finally on the 5th floor, after getting his hands scrubbed down, Zeek went and picked up his precious baby Laura. She was so adorable with a head full of hair. He put his pinky in her tiny little palm and she grabbed ahold and squeezed. Zeek didn't want to put her back down but after about an hour it was time to sign the release forms and birth certificate.
At this time a nurse entered to collect baby Laura to prepare her for discharge. She looked familiar, she was the nurse that was there for baby Laura's birth. The labor and delivery ward was closely knit like a family. They all loved baby Laura and gave her extra care and affection. Maybe it was because of the tragic ordeal of losing her mom without knowing her. Being all alone overnight without a mother's love and touch.
The usual nosey guard was making his rounds and cracked open the door and peeped his head in.
"Whats good y'all?"
Zeek turned his head towards the door. The nurse walked over and greeted the guard.
"Hey Gilmore, we all good, safe and sound." The two of them laughed.
"Nurse Cornetta, You know boss lady is in the building today?"
Zeek was able to hear the conversation, and as loud as Gilmore was half the floor could.
"You mean Maria? What is she doing here?"
"I don't know but she's in her office."
Zeek smiled on the inside. He was not sure why, but hearing that Maria was at work made him think about how his dream ended. It was buried at the back of his mind with everything that was going on but the reality was that she was on his mind last night. Zeek figured he would take this chance to thank Maria for all that she did for him yesterday preparing the house for the inspector.
After Nurse Cornetta and Gilmore finished their conversation Zeek inquired about Maria's whereabouts. He told the nurse he just wanted to thank her since she was here to get it over with.
"Upstairs on the 6th floor, make a right out of the elevator, first door on the left."
Nurse Cornetta left the room. Zeek figured he would go look for Maria after signing the release forms and birth certificate. After receiving them he made his way to the 6th floor. Exiting the elevator he got turned around. He went left then right, he looked for Maria's office door but had to rush back downstairs to his princes Laura.
He entered the elevator and as the door began to close he felt a presence he could not explain. He just knew that Maria was near but the door had already closed. Why was he thinking about Maria so much? Why did he feel propelled to see her? Well I guess it wasn't meant to be Zeek thought to himself.
*Ding, 5th floor*.... *Ding, 4th floor*
Zeek still felt this presence with him as the elevator travelled down. He scanned the elevator, maybe Maria was on it with him. His eyes found the corner of the elevator, lured to a female shadow in a nicely fitted sweat suit. Although her hoody was on, there was something that drew his eyes to her.
*Ding, 3rd floor*... "Excuse me coming out"
A woman from next to Zeek made her way through the elevator. As she did the mysterious woman from the corner became apparent. All this time it was Maria that was pulling him in. They had a weird but strong energy between them.
