twenty eight- a night to remember

I've never felt so insecure before. I was worrying about certain stuff I usually didn't pay any heed to. Such as my appearance, as well as my clothing. These were things that rarely crossed my mind, so I considered this foreign to me. However, Denzel was schooling me on what to and what not to do during a date. Although we were in second period and currently practicing dribbling and basketball plays, I found myself listening attentively.

"And you gotta chill out on the touchy shit," Denzel spoke, gaining my attention once again. "Like, you don't want her to feel as if you're tryna pipe right after the date."

I furrowed my brows. "I'm not trying to-"

"You're a teenager, my guy," he reminded me, "you can't tell me you ain't tryna get sum later on in y'all relationship."

My lips pursed in a thin line as I thought to myself. That was something that never came to mind; being intimate with Davina. None of that seemed to matter. Her heart and personality was what stood out the most to me. Though her appearance was eye-gawking, and anyone could fantasize or grow envy over it, she as a person was amazing.

"I mean," I started, "that's nothing I'm contemplating about now."

He smacked his lip, rolling his eyes afterward. "Anyways, just keep your hands to yourself."

"...What if she starts being touchy with me? Do I just—ya know, reject it?" I questioned, earning a small chuckle from him.

"I'm pretty sure you'd know what to do, Jahseh," Denzel replied, a small grin plastered across his face as he passed me the ball. In addition, I dribbled the ball into the paint, performing an easy layup seconds after.

A sigh fell from my mouth as I made my ways towards Denzel. "I haven't dated anyone since you know who," I said to him, a small frown forming on my face. "And I've never felt this way for a girl before, so this is completely new to me."

"It shouldn't be any different...I mean, despite the fact she ain't got a dick," he retorted, earning a laugh from me. "You're overthinking this, Jah. Everything will be just fine."

I pursed my lips in a thin line. "Hopefully."

The sound of the bell echoed throughout the halls, indicating that third period was over and lunch has begun. Students rushed out of the classrooms and into the corridor that was previously empty. Denzel and I followed behind the rest of them, making our way into the cafeteria within a minute or two. The lunchroom wasn't too packed today, considering there was a field trip today for the people who attended Mrs. Morris's astronomy class. A field trip Davina was currently on, which was the reason for me feeling somewhat sad at the moment. However, I tried my best to brush it off. She should be back by the end of sixth period; I plan on taking her out exactly after school.

Suddenly, Denzel was nudging my shoulder. "Yo, you know you gotta tell Royce?"

A deep sigh fell from my mouth. "Do I really?"

"Yes, nigga, that's his sister-"

"Step sister," I corrected, causing him to shoot me a glare.

He rolled his eyes. "Still, he should know what y'all got going on for each other."

"Not really," I responded. "I mean, I guess so...but like, he shouldn't care so much about who she's with."

Denzel smacked his lips. "Of course he should."

"I mean—Royce shouldn't be so strict about it. That's her father's job, ya know?"
