Last night was definitely a night that would be hard to forget. After I shot the cutest guy I've ever seen with a paintball gun, I couldn't find it in myself to face him for the rest of the party. So, I did what any sane person would do in a time of humiliation; I avoided him.
On the bright side, being the good sober friend that I am, I did not wake up with an excruciating hangover like the rest of my mature friends. I wake up pretty early this morning only to find the large house to be completely quiet...definitely suspicious.
"Natalie?" I call through the halls, unsuccessful in finding her anywhere. I peek my head into David's room as I remember her mentioning that sometimes she's in his bedroom booking plane tickets on his laptop, but unfortunately, she's isn't here either. Just as I'm about to leave, David's open laptop catches my eye.
I enter the empty room and notice his editing software open as well as a video already in the progress of being edited. Only two minutes of the video is in, so I'm guessing he'd get the second half of it tonight before uploading it tomorrow. The title name of the project reads, 'REUNITING WITH MY HOMETOWN BEST FRIENDS!!'. I lean across the desk with a bright smile and decide to have a look, I'm sure David wouldn't mind anyway.
Pressing play, the video begins with Jonah saying some stupid shit before David's intro plays with the number of the vlog and date displayed on a black background. The video cuts to Clara, who's absentmindedly walking through the living room while on her phone. I already know where this is going. David jumps in front of the corner he was hiding in and the frame suddenly freezes on Clara's shocked expression after getting scared by David yet again. The freeze-frame is followed by a voice over.
"This is Clara, we grew up together. She hates me with every bone in her body, so I thought it'd be funny to fly Ilya out to L.A., who has had the biggest crush on her since high school, and see how things unfold."
The frame unfreezes to show Clara repeatedly smacking David — who's laughing uncontrollably — all while she keeps her hand on her chest, in an effort to slow her racing heart.
I groan loudly before trudging out of his room. "David!" I call out, ready to put an end to this prank before it even begins. "David, you can't—"
I stop in my tracks immediately, my mouth open in disbelief. Of course, I'm too late. My green eyes take in Ilya, who stands with a grin in front of me with David by his side.
