Percy had arrived this morning, with Annabeth. He was able to resist the temptation of the Lotus Flowers, and was able to get Meghan and I out of there alive. It had been six months in the outside world, but only days inside the Lotus Hotel and Casino.
Meghan and I had gone there six months earlier. We went there to escape the pain, the pain of losing someone dear to us. Someone who Meghan grew up with, and I had fallen for. Hard.
"Nico," said a voice that I recognized as Annabeth. "We need to keep moving." Right now, we were walking through a forest in eastern Colorado, trying to make our way back to Camp Half-Blood. We couldn't shadow travel because Meghan and I hadn't gotten back our strength from our trip into the hotel. We were too weak for that small task, which made both of us angry. We hated being weak.
"Yeah," I said, my voice cracking. "We should." I stood up from the log that I was sitting on and began to walk forward with Meghan, Percy, and Annabeth.
I had time to think during our trip. Too much time, at that. Time to thing about everything that I left behind when I went back to the casino. The faces I forgot, the names that went with them. All except for the one that I was meaning to forget. The pain of it was dull inside of the casino, but as soon as I stepped back out, it was as if I was watching her get carried away all over again. Only two hundred times worse.
I thought back to that day, the events that happened. I blame myself for it. I could have pulled out my sword and killed those she-demons before they got her. But I didn't. I just sat there and watched as she screamed my name, a pleading look in her bright purple, tear filled eyes. It was my fault that she was probably dead.
This thought brought tears to my eyes. I quickly blinked them away before the others could notice, but Meghan always seemed to know. She grabbed my hand and squeezed it tight.
"I know," she whispered. "I know what you're feeling." I nodded my head and took a good look at her.
The face that I hadn't seen since I was seven was more detailed, more intricate and beautiful. Her deep brown eyes were framed by glasses with a thick black frame and thin lens. She never wore them unless she really needed to, otherwise, she would just live without them.
Her hair was about four inches longer than it was before. It was still its normal, chocolate brown on top, and underneath the same deep, coffee brown that matched her eyes.
She was wearing a pair of completely black Converse, laces and all. She had been wearing them the night that we went into the Lotus Hotel and Casino. She was also wearing a Panic! at the Disco shirt, the same one that Amber wore.
Meghan was also a lot curvier. She had a magnificent hourglass figure and a slim waist. She walked with more confidence than any human being should have, especially her.
Believe it or not, Meghan was a nerd. Hold your gasps until the end. She was always reading books about Greek mythology, which explains why she got her position as information processer. Her favorite movie was Star Trek, she loved Star Wars, and she was a straight-A student. She was in all advanced classes, except she wasn't in the group for advanced kids. She didn't have ADHD or dyslexia. Too smart for her own good.
"We should rest," Percy said suddenly. We all stopped and began to set up camp. Percy pulled something out of his pocket. It was about the size of a pack of chewing gum and it had a button on it. He placed it on the ground and pressed the button, it immediately turning into a large tent.
"I got it from Thalia the last time the Hunters of Artemis were at camp," he explained. I nodded but scowled internally.
The Hunters of Artemis is the group that my sister had joined when we were rescued from Dr. Thorn in Maine. She had pledged herself to them, and died in service to them. I have hated the group since then.
