A Step In The Right Direction

Today is Friday. My favourite day of the week. I walk to school feeling different, like I actually want to go. Weird, I know. Maybe Mum put something in my cereal this morning. Speaking of Mum she wont even look at Dad anymore. Ever since they made their announcement. I don't want to be one of those kids wondering which house I'll be at each weekend or have awkward parents at student/teacher nights. Brad can't give two shits, as long as there's money for him to scab and a bed to sleep in he doesn't care.

I loose my train of thought as I trip on a stone. My headphones fly out of my ears. As i bend down to pick them up a hand meets mine. I feel a shiver down my spine as our eyes meet.

"Morning Jenna."
"Hey Elijah."
"You going to Jack's party tonight?"
"Didn't know he was having one."
"Come with me, it will be fun promise."

Did i really just hear this. Elijah asking me to go to a party with him. Hold on Jenna don't get to excited theres got to be a catch.

"What's the catch?"
"No catch, I asked Brittany but she was already going with Tom."
"Okay, Ill go on one condition, You pick me up at 7 and you stay with me the whole night."
"Thats two things."
"Or you could just turn up alone and make an awkward entrance while all the couples arm in arm stare at you.
"Okay, okay, okay. Its a deal."
"See you at 7."
"It's a date."

OMFG! "It's a date!" I have to tell Tyler. Wait she doesn't even know I like Elijah yet. I pick up the phone and dial her number. Pick up, pick up, pick up.

"Hey gurl hey" (how we always greet each other on the phone.)
"Hey ughhh you busy after school"
"I have band till five and then, wait a minute whats up you sound different?"
"Nothing i always sound weird on the phone I just needed to go to the shopping centre to find a outfit for tonight."
"Are you going to Jacks party?"
How does everyone seem to know except me, ugh probably my social awkwardness again.
"Ugh yeah."
"Alright stuff band you need to fill me in. Ill meet you at the front gates after the bell. Love ya."

The rest of the day is a blur. I cant even remember what i ordered from the canteen. I'm so anxious about tonight. I was so calm and confident talking to Elijah this morning. No awkwardness at all, strange. 20 minutes until the end of the day. Right now i have art. We are working on an angles and aspects assignment. We have to find a painting by a famous artist then make an aspect of it 3D. Mines almost done. I have a painting of boats in the canal at night with twinkly lights hanging above. "Pack up everyone, bells about to go" yells Mr Jordan.

I wait by the front gates for Tyler. As usual she's late. Hold on I can hear her laugh, she's just over by the hall walking towards me. She gives me the biggest smile and starts walking faster.
"Come on tell me the goss!"
"Soon come on we need to go to the plaza."
We start walking to the plaza and I explain everything to Tyler. I need someone to know how I'm feeling and if anyone I'm going to tell her. I tell her about the night I walked Jack home, Mum and Dad's announcement, my feelings for Elijah and how he asked me to the party. But I leave one thing out, how I've been feeling about Jack. I ignore my gut feeling because tonight it's just me and Elijah.
"Jenna why didn't you tell me all this sooner you know I'm always here for you. And I can't believe you like Elijah that's so cute."

"Shut up. And yeah, I know. I just feel a little left out lately and all this shit at home isn't helping. But tonights going to be fun so lets stop with the negativity and lets go SHOPPING!"

"Wooo! Let's buy you something Elijah wont be able to take his eyes off!"

Tyler and I go into forever 21, brandy melville, target, factorie and the last on our list is cotton on. Just as we are about to leave I spot this gorgeous outfit hanging beside the door. A black lace bralette with a beautiful floral skater skirt and amazing black heels.
"Jenna it's amazing if you don't buy it I will."

"Well I hope my bank account doesn't mind!"

*Back at Tyler's house.*

"Hey Jen it's 6:55 Elijah will be here any minute."

"Yep, Im almost done just putting my heels on."

*Door bell rings.*

"The boys are here!"

"Boys?" I ask.

"Yeah Elijah and Jack is picking me up."

"Jack's picking up a girl to take to his own party ooohhh someones got an admirer."

"Shut up lets go have the night of our lives."

Tyler runs down the stairs to open the door while I check my self in the mirror one last time. As I make my way down the stairs I can feel every one watching me. Do i have lipstick on my teeth?

Elijah's POV
Wow! Jenna looks amazing tonight. I've never seen this side of her before. The way she curled her hair and her big blue eyes. Breath taking. My heart starts beating faster. I've never felt this way about her before but I have a feeling tonight will be amazing.
