Chapter 5

Around midnight, Sidney snuck up to the attic with a plate of hot dogs and a bottle of water. Ash leapt up from an old couch that was left up there at the smell of food.

A few minutes later, Ashley said, "Creator?"

"Yeah?" came the response.

"What time is it?"

"Past midnight." Sid sat on the couch. She leaned back and closed her eyes.

"You okay?"

She opened her eyes slightly. "Yeah. Just thinking."

"Oh."

Several minutes passed.

"Ash?"

"Hm?"

"Do you feel okay?"

"Emotionally or physically?"

Sid shrugged.

"Physically, I've got a couple million cuts and bruises from the fall. Emotionally, a definite no."

"Wait, what fall?"

Ash explained everything while Sid hugged her knees.

"What have I done?" she asked herself in horror.

"But you didn't do anything. All this is Eggman's fault."

Sid stood up. " I'll be right back." She walked/climbed back to her room and grabbed her phone. When she got back, she collapsed back on the couch, one hand holding her phone, the other draped across her face.

"Cree?"

She didn't answer, but simply unlocked her phone and showed Ashley a text she'd sent earlier that day.

Ash looked from the screen to Sidney and back again several times.

"I'm so sorry,"Sid managed to choke out. "I took you away from your friends and family. I gave you those cuts and bruises. I ruined everything..."

"No you didn't! I wanna get to know you too!"

"You do?"

"Well, yeah! If I never make it back to Mobius, I wanna have at least one good close friend. Even if she already knows everything about me."

"Oh, don't worry about me being the only friend you'll have. Someone's already coming."

Ashley's eyes went wide. "Really? Who?"

Sidney smiled at her. "Shadow."

Ashley: Yeah.

Ashley: Well that's not a very good reason.
