The Life We Could've Had (Dick Grayson x Reader)

Dick and (y/n) dated throughout their whole year of high school and a year throughout college. Unexpected things happened and ended thing, 8 years later they bump into each other and decided to catch up.

I honestly couldn't be any happier with the life I have now. I'm getting married in 3 months, I graduated college with my M.D. which stands for Doctoral Degree, I could've been anything I wanted but ever since I was little I always wanted to be a doctor I always wanted to help people when they got injured. Once I graduate high school I went to college right away I had my whole future planned out at some point I thought I was always gonna be with this one guy.

Dick Grayson. He was my everything at some point things happened which lead to things to end. Sometimes I look back at how we ended.

**Flashback**
I was at the Wayne manor waiting for Dick to get back from patrol, Yes I knew about his night job as Nightwing. I was in his bedroom waiting for him to come back, it was killing me. It was already 4 am and he still wasn't back I decided to go check the bat-cave to only see Dick on the medical bed beat up badly and Alfred attending his injuries. I was gonna go run by his side but Bruce held me from preventing to go by him.

"(Y/n), not now at least not until Alfred is done" Bruce said. I just nodded my head.
"What happened to him?"I said worriedly
"We were against Penguin but what we didn't know was that he was allied with Joker and Harley Quinn they attacked us unexpectedly" Bruce said before he left. I looked at his brothers to see that they were hurt as well but not as bad as Dick. I basically waited till he woke up which was around 6 am, he kept getting a fever but I managed to get it down.

"Dick?"I said softly
"(Y/n), what are you doing here shouldn't you be sleeping?" he said
"How could I when my boyfriend got beaten up badly" I said
"I told you so many times to not worry about me, you know I'll always come back to you" he said rolling his eyes.
"And I told you that I was never gonna stop you are my boyfriend for the love of god that's my job, to worry about you because I love you" I said I was gonna reach out to hold his hand but he moved it.

"Well don't I'm not a baby (y/n) I can handle myself" Dick said
"I never said you were" I said confused on why he's acting like this
"But I can see it you and everyone else think I am this fragile little boy like I was when I lost my parents but news flash I'm not" he said now out of the medical bed and standing up looking straight at me.
"Dick I-" I was about to say but he cut me off.

"Save it, I think it's better if we just end things here I can't be with someone who doesn't think I'm capable of doing this on my own" he said. Wait what? Did he just break up with me I was starting to see blurry knowing I was about to cry but I am not I'm not gonna show him weakness. I wiped my eyes.

"If that's what you want then ok, I'm not gonna beg because that's just gonna make me look stupid have a nice life Richard"I said and left upstairs to pack, everyone was so confused on why I was leaving all I told them was tell Dick. God he really is living up to his name.
**End Of Flashback**

I was on my way to this coffee shop because I had to look over things. I was so distracted into my own thought,  I didn't even notice that my name was being called out I looked back to see who was shouting my name. I saw someone who I haven't seen in 8 years. Richard Grayson.
"Hello, Richard it's been so long" I said
"Hi, yeah it has been so long how are you?"He said
"I'm good, what about you?" I said
"Good, where are you heading off to?" He said.

"Oh I'm gonna go to this coffee shop, would you like to join" I said smiling.
"Yeah I was thinking maybe we could catch up?"Dick said
"Yeah, sure" I said he nodded and we went to where it was. Once we got in we ordered our drinks and paid once we got them we went to sit down at this cute little booth with a window.

From there we started to catch up, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying this. I liked how we talked it brought back good memories when we dated.
"I just want to say how sorry I am on how I ended things with you I wasn't thinking at the time I was just sick of everyone treating me like a baby. I just had nobody care they way you did" He said
"It's fine, honestly that was the past" I said bringing the hot steamy coffee to my lips to take a drink out of it to only see dick staring at my hand. My left hand.
"I uh I didn't know y-you we're married!?"Dick said surprise
"Oh, no I'm not married well yet I am engaged"I said smiling sadly at him. Wait sadly why am I sad maybe I feel bad. Of course I do feel bad.
"Oh that is great when are you getting married" he said.

"In about 3 months you should come your whole family is welcome" I said
"Yeah thank you, when did the two of you meet?"Dick said
"When I first started my job at the hospital, he needed surgery but all the doctors were busy at the time and I was the only one so I got offered and when he was at least a little better I would go check up on him since I was his doctor I guess from there we hit it off"I said smiling at the memory.

"That is nice" Dick said smiling a little but knowing him I know he's hurting inside.
"Dick, I know how much this hurts but can you really blame me I was hurt just as much as you. I just wanted to be happy and finally have a family of my own" I said
"I know and I don't blame you. It's just ever since I broke up with you I have been thinking about you and realizing how much I still love you I was so stupid. Seeing you today got me thinking that that could've been the life we could've had I guess I was just late. I hope you are happy the both of you" Dick said then he got up and I could see some tears.

So like it has been 2 weeks almost 3 since I posted. I honestly don't know what to say but sorry. I hope you like and enjoy this chapter it's really cliche and overly dramatic at the end, also I do requests if you guys would like any message me. Next bat-boy is Tim Drake.
