It'd only been another week, but Jack could barely handle Alex not knowing about his enormous crush. He'd been lying, saying he didn't like anyone at the moment, that he didn't find that many people attractive. All of it was a lie, he'd liked Alex for months, he was just afraid of rejection.
He was so tempted to just say it already, he needed to finally let it out because it was stressing him out, he felt like Alex already knew, despite that being basically impossible. He did more than what was necessary to hide his crush.
earthtoalex: Jackyy
bonerbarakat: whattt
earthtoalex: I have a crush on a boy
bonerbarakat: oh?
Jack's heart sank. His chest was hurting now, it felt like it was tightening. He knew he didn't have a chance, he just knew that Alex wouldn't like him back, but he wasn't ready for when he'd find out.
earthtoalex: Yeah
earthtoalex: He's really pretty n cute
earthtoalex: And he's really nice to me
bonerbarakat: awww
bonerbarakat: do you think he likes you back?
earthtoalex: Hmmm
earthtoalex: Maybe
bonerbarakat: that's good
bonerbarakat: what's his name?
earthtoalex: Ehh that doesn't matter really
earthtoalex: I have to go shopping I'll be back soon Jackyy I love you!!!
bonerbarakat: have fun, i love you too
With that, Alex left, knowing something was up with Jack but not able to ask what. He'd ask as soon as he was home, he felt guilty for not asking before.
Jack was sat on his bed, staring at the ceiling and trying to think of what to do next. This hurt, he'd had little crushes before, but never one like this. He'd tried to get rid of it on multiple occasions, he'd tried everything, but it just wouldn't go away.
...
When Alex got home, he didn't bother texting Jack, he just started a video call. It was better, easier, and he knew Jack would pick up.
"Hi, Jacky," he smiled at his best friend, momentarily forgetting about how sad he seemed earlier, before the thought popped back into his head. "Oh- what was wrong earlier? You seemed really sad and just... not yourself, I dunno... were you okay? Are you okay?"
Jack couldn't think of a lie to cover it up, not that he wanted to. Lying to Alex wasn't his favourite thing to do, although he did sometimes have to do it, either to keep Alex from being uncomfortable, or to make himself more comfortable. "Yeah, yup. I'm alright, it was just... when you said you liked another guy, it... it kinda hurt, y'know? Because... because... because I have a huge fucking crush on you, Alex, I've had a massive crush on you for months and I don't know how you haven't noticed because it's so god damn obvious, but there. I have a crush on you."
Alex had to take a minute to process that, it'd really shocked him. He didn't know how to respond. "Jack the- the fucking- god," he groaned loudly at his own stuttering and inability to form a sentence, before trying again, slower this time. "Jack, the guy I was talking about was you."
Jack's eyes widened, then he had to stop himself grinning. "You're not kidding, right? You're not lying? If you're lying it's not funny-"
"I'm not fucking lying Jack, I have a crush on you too, dumbass. You're the best person I've ever met- well, sort of met." Alex's cheeks were burning, but he was glad he'd said that. He was also slightly confused, he'd thought that even if Jack did like him back, he'd never know because he'd never admit it, but here he was.
