Ethan pov
He stood leaning against the doorway, she hadn't noticed him yet. The smirk on his face showing the humour he felt as he watched her sorting through a box of childhood memories and every now and then exclaiming 'I remember you!' Over and over again this happened until at last she picked out a small grey bear that looked like it came from the depths of hell. She shuddered and tossed the bear aside muttering 'Evil evil bear. You gave me nightmares. I should have called you Tea." That's when Ethan's loud laugh shocked her and she turned and saw him step into the room.
"Were you watching me?"
"Only for a moment. Just long enough to know you must really hate that bear!"
"It's evil" she replied defensively.
"Yep, got that when you compared him to tea" he said laughingly "so, what are you doing?" looking at everything scattered around the room.
Janella sighed and walking to the side of her bed she climbed up and and sat with one knee raised and rested her head on it.
"I'm saying goodbye to some old stuff."
"Old stuff?" he asked as he sat on the end of her bed taking in her drawn appearance. He'd already known what part of the breaking spell took place that day and
he could see just how much it affected her. Dark circles surrounded her eyes as if she hadn't slept in a month. Her flawless complexion now blotchy. What he wouldn't give to take all this pain away from her and stop the hurting, to hold her.
"Yeh" she sighed looking across to the window "saying goodbye to the memories. We did it with photos but I thought..."
"You thought...?" Ethan prompted.
"I thought maybe it should all go. Everything that reminded me..." her voice trailed off as she tried to finish what she was saying and couldn't.
"You've been saying goodbye to alot this week. I have to say I'm proud of how you've been handling it."
Her eyed snapped to his in disbelief "last night..."
"Last night was last night Nellie. All of us weak moments when we feel we can't cope; but we do. In less than a week you've been through more than some people go through in a lifetime and here you are still talking with me."
"If you hadn't come..."
"But I did come. I'd like to think I had something to do with it but the fact is Nellie that you're still fighting. You have so much fight in you that I'm in awe of it."
Nellie didn't know what to say. How do you reply to something like that when you know it's completely wrong? Her surprise must have shown on her face because Ethan started to chuckle.
"Stop over thinking. Accept the compliment."
"But..."
"Nope and if you say anything else I'm going to make you drink double your 'evil drink' before I leave."
Quickly narrowed eyes pierced the distance between the two. One was left smirking while the other was left wondering if there was a nice way to say 'I hate you.'
"No you don't" he chuckled at the surprise on her face "you spoke out loud."
"Oh."
"Oh? Is that all you have to say? No sorry or I didn't mean it?" mocking her with a hand on his chest "I'm wounded."
Janella sat back and leant on the head of the bed with arms folded and head slightly tilted to the side "Are you making fun of your patient doctor Ethan?"
"I'd never make fun of you Nellie. On the other hand I might tease you a little..."
"A little huh?"
"Yep."
Nellie smiled widely taking his breath away although he could see that sadly the smile didn't reach her eyes.
"Devil incarnate."
Ethan couldn't help but laugh out loud. Easiness settled over them as they talked about the memory pieces she was keeping and the reasons for it. They talked for some time when all of a sudden Nellie asked "What's your wolfs' name?"
"Sander... yours?"
"Chrissy. I'm going to miss her. Cam's is Cray. They really love one another."
"The bond between wolves is amazing. No matter where they are in the world they'll always find each other."
A single tear made it's way down Nellies cheek. "Chrissy and Cray aren't going to be together. They weren't given the chance and now the chance will be gone forever because of me."
Ethan reached out and with a gentle thumb he wiped the lone tear away. "They may not have made it in this lifetime but they have the next and all that come after that."
"You really think so?"
"It's how wolves work."
"Misty and I talked today about Chrissy and Cray. I decided..." taking a deep breath she shuddered "I decided that they should have a chance to run together but it means I have to see Cam before we shift.." her voice dropped to a whisper "I'm scared."
Pushing things out of the way Ethan couldn't stand it anymore as he needed to hold her. He and Sander agreed they needed to comfort her as he held her close.
"You don't need to do it alone. You could ask some one..."
"Will you come?" Nellie blurted out.
Pride swelled in him and in Sander as his wolf took over "We would be honoured to stand by you."
Nellie looked up "Sander?"
"Yes little one?"
"Thankyou. For everything."
"No thanks are needed Nellie. You and Chrissy are more important than you know right now but in time you will come to understand."
"I couldn't have done this without you and Ethan and I just wanted you to know that."
"Thankyou Nellie. I must go now. You're tired and I believe Ethan has a drink for you to have."
"Evil evil drink." Nellie said with a grin as she watched eyes change from dark to green and quickly looked away embarrassed.
"Well Nellie... it's time you had a cup of tea..."
Nellie shuddered.
