Chapter 9

No one's pov

John was a little anxious about what he was going to do, but he was determined to do it.

He knew that he can't keep running away from his problems forever. After Blyke, left for school the first thing he decided to do was to call Claire and Adrion and to apologize to them.

After everything that had happened he never contacted them once which he is regretting now.
'If only I had done this much earlier than I wouldn't have been feeling so nervous now' he thought.

'Will they even want to listen to me' he wondered as many possibilities ran in his head.

He scrolled through his contacts until he came across her name.
He called her, anxiously waiting for her to pick up his call. He hoped she haven't changed her number.

Meanwhile, Claire and Adrion were heading towards the Turf War location to inspect it before their upcoming battle with SilverSpring high school.

They were in the train waiting for their stop. Adrion was busy playing games on his phone while Claire was taking a short nap beside him.
Her nap was interrupted when she heard her phone go off.

She pulled it out and was surprised to see an unknown number calling.
'Strange' she thought as she didn't recall giving her number to any stranger.

"Hello" she picked the call.

"Claire !" a male voice responded.

"May I know who I'm speaking with?" she asked.

"It's me John" her eyes widened in shock.
"J-John" she nearly yelled his name, catching the attention of the nearby passengers along with Adrion, who stopped his game and turned his attention towards her.

"Claire I want t-"before he could finish she cut the call.

He kind of expected it to happen. But he knew that he can't give up yet as he reminded himself of the situation.
He kept calling her but she didn't answer. He was about to lose hope when he heard her voice.

"What do you want from me now" she yelled at him.

"Just leave us alone" she said angrily but he could sense the fear in her voice.

"Claire I know I'm the last person you want to hear from, but please hear me out." he tried to make her listen.

Claire was about to refuse when she felt a tap on her shoulder. It was Adrion who seemed to have heard the conversation.

"Claire I think we should listen to him out" he assured.

"Are you serious" she stared at him in disbelief.
He nodded causing her to compile with him.

"What do you want to say, John," he asked as they waited for his response.
John was relieved when he heard Adrion's voice which was a good thing since he would be able to converse to both of them at once.

"Claire Adrion I'm sorry" he admitted. Claire's eyes widened in shock as she looked at Adrion who was equally surprised.

They didn't expect him to apologize. The John they knew was so stubborn that he refused to admit his fault in the first place.

"I'm sorry for what I did. The way I've treated you guys and acted around everyone I shouldn't have done that. "
"After being bullied for a long time, when I finally got the strength to fight back.
The power has got on my head so much that I wanted to show everyone that I was not weak anymore.
I was afraid that people will start to look down on me and consider me weak as a king.
So I instilled fear in their minds to silence them. "His face darkened remembering the way people used to look down on him.

Claire and Adrion stayed silent as they listened to John. Even though they blamed John for being a tyrant they couldn't help but feel guilty for not realizing the reason behind his actions.

"I regret everything I've done. If only I've realized my mistakes earlier then maybe I would've tried to change, tried to be a better king, and perhaps a better friend."He said in a low voice, his head hung low.

He remembered the time when he beat Adrion when he was only trying to warn him about Claire.
And the time when he punched Claire when she was only trying to stop him from beating his friend.

"The thing is I've still not got over what happened in NewBostin.The memories still haunt me now.
I just wanted to apologize to both of you.
It's the least I could do for making you go through that.
I'm ready to wait until you can talk to me."John said rummaging his fingers through his hairs, as he waited for their response.

"It's alright John. We don't hate you anymore. We were just surprised when you called out of the blue after such a long time."Adrion was the first to respond.

"And besides after hearing you I think that I can understand your situation more clearly now. "He continued.

"Mr.Doe was right when he said you've changes first, I find it hard to believe but now I could see why he said that "Claire said.

"You talked with Dad about me" John said surprised that she still keeps in touch with his Dad.

"Yeah it was a month ago".

"And he didn't bother to tell me" he grumbled.

"I would like to talk more with you but it seems like our stop is approaching, "Claire told him.

"Are you free this Friday?"Adrion asked.

"Yeah".

"Cool I was thinking that we could meet up at Kovoro Mall if that's fine with both of you," he said excitedly.

"Sounds great " Claire cheered.

"Sure" John responded with much enthusiasm.

"Besides there's something both of us have to say to you"Adrion remarked glancing at Claire who seemed to be thinking the same.

"Alright! see you then"

"Bye "they said in unison.

After he hunged up he slumped up on the floor. It was better than he anticipated. He can't wait to meet them again.
He had so many questions to ask.
He wanted to know how everyone was doing? Who was the king now? What were his powers and many more?

But his happiness was short-lived when he was reminded that he still hasn't told about his ability to Sera.

He felt guilty for keeping her in the dark about him.

Will she ever forgive him when she will know that he had been lying to her from the start?.

Dad was right I should have told her this much earlier then it wouldn't have been so complicated now.

He knew that he will end up breaking her trust and he is going to hate himself for it.

But he had to prepare himself for that, he can't keep hiding his secret forever from her. As his best friend she had a right to know about the truth.

He decides to tell her about it this weekend.
It would be better to reveal the truth to her herself rather than being exposed by someone.

Even if they don't remain friends after this he will still protect her from everyone. As long as she is safe nothing else matters to him.

He was interrupted by his thoughts when he received a text from her.

He wondered where they were going. He stood up and took a look oh him in the mirror.

'Damn I look like a mess' he commented looking at himself in the mirror.

Maybe I should take a shower after I have lunch. He decided to get himself ready before she arrives.

Sorry for the delay.

I was having writer's block for a while. I'm so glad it's finally over.

Chapter 9 is also completed which I will post by tomorrow after finishing my fanart of Jera.
