Ashley's P.O.V.
"I'll see you tomorrow?" Matt looked down at me for an answer but I just gave him a nod. He kissed my cheek before letting me go over to my car.
"I'll text you when I'm home." I reassured him. He gave a smile before going back into his house and shutting the front door. What just happened? Everything went so fast I felt like I had no time to even breathe. Putting the key into the ignition I wondered what school would be like tomorrow with all of the boys there. Could I honestly trust Matt to stand up for our relationship? Or could I even call it that? My mind remained clouded the whole ride home

I walked into the front door of my house, allowing the fresh smell of baked goods to envelope my surroundings. I heard a tune being hummed from within the walls of the house that I could recognize anywhere.
"Dad?" I called out. He had been out of town for a business trip for the last couple weeks and I hadn't had the pleasure of enjoying his company in what felt like forever.
"I'm in here, baby girl!" I heard his deep voice call out from the kitchen. I quickly made my way through the winding hallways of my unnecessarily large Virginian home until I saw the undeniable tall frame standing in front of the stove. He turned, his front now facing me as he held a pan of blueberry muffins in his hand, accompanied by a oven mitt.
"I can't believe you're back!" I exclaimed, jumping into his arms. "Woah, woah, hot pan here." He sets the tray down before giving me the hugs I had missed the most recently. They reminded me of Matt's... Tight and welcoming.
"Why are you back so soon?" I pulled away to get a good look at his face. New wrinkles had formed next to his eyes, revealing the amount of times he had smiled since being away. His blue eyes seemed almost darker, something I had noticed since I was younger. It seemed the wiser he gets, the deeper the blue.
"I got a vacation week and I knew as soon as I got off I had to come see my little pumpkin." I rolled my eyes at his dad-ish words and laughed a bit to myself. "I notice you weren't here when I got home. I assumed you were at a sleepover but then I remembered you complaining to me just before I left for Philly about how you have no one to sit with at lunch and how you just wanted to-" he held up air quotes while mocking me in a nasily voice "-drop out." My cheeks tinted at the thought of telling my father I spent time overnight with a boy. Nothing really happened- some kisses were exchanged but that was all- but somehow it was still embarrassing. My father is relatively laid back as a human and that goes for his parenting style as well, but that doesn't mean he won't force the 'Birds and the Bees' conversation down my throat.
"I kind of... made a new friend... while you were away..." I averted eye contact, attempting to hide the blush creeping behind my cheeks. "Great! Let's invite her to dinner tonight!" He clapped his hands loudly, the echo ringing within the halls. He tapped a muffin, checking to see if they had cooled off yet before picking it up in his abnormally large hands. Peeling the wrapping off of the side and breaking off a piece, he happily chomped away at the sweet treat.
"Actually, Dad, it's uh... it's a he." He slowed his chewing and nodded before swallowing.
"Alright then... Let's invite him over for dinner."
