Eurus drifted in and out of sleep, usually waking up whenever Jim did. Now was one of those times. Jim's eyes weren't open, but Eurus had felt his fingers tighten briefly around her waist, usually a sign that he was awake.

He always seemed to tense when he woke up, stay there with his eyes closed, as if hoping that he would fall asleep, and then succumb to being awake and open his eyes. As if he would be able to sleep so tense. Eurus was almost sure that the only reason he ever slept was out of pure exhaustion, never to keep a steady schedule.

Jim's eyes finally opened. They found Eurus's already open eyes.

"Good morning, love," Eurus whispered, smiling gently.

"Is it morning already?" Jim asked, twisting his torso to look at the alarm clock behind him. It read in bright green letters "3:02".

"Too bad the hotel breakfast isn't open yet," Eurus lamented.

"Good thing the hotel breakfast isn't open yet," Jim replied, turning back around to look at her.

He moved closer to her. Eurus adjusted her hold on his shoulders, putting her head into his chest.

"You're such a flirt," Eurus laughed.

"You're really cute when you say that," Jim laughed, putting his chin over her head, surrounding her in him.

"Again, with the flirting," Eurus laughed.

"I didn't think you'd ever laugh," Jim said. "It's a nice laugh."

"I didn't think you'd be this handsome," Eurus laughed, putting a hand to his cheek.

"Again, with the flirting," Jim copied.

Eurus laughed quietly, slipping her hand down and around his neck.

"Why'd you wake up?" Eurus asked.

Jim shrugged.

"I guess it's from my awful sleep schedule," Jim supposed.

"Why don't you sleep?" Eurus asked. "That's the problem."

Jim didn't say anything.

Eurus moved slightly away to see his face properly. His countenance was wiped of all emotion; he did this whenever he didn't want to say something.

"Is it about your brother?" Eurus asked.

"No," Jim answered.

Eurus knew he was telling the truth. Jim would never lie straight to her face like that.

"I was thinking about my parents when I fell asleep on accident and I guess that it carried into my dreams," Jim said honestly.

"Are your parents dead?" Eurus asked. "You've never mentioned them, and if they weren't, they would have come to your trial years ago."

Jim nodded.

"Do you think their death was your fault?" Eurus asked.

Jim nodded. Eurus felt his throat contract as he swallowed heavily.

"And don't say that it probably happened for a reason, because that's bullshit," Jim interrupted. "Everyone says that and I'm sick of it."

"Did it have anything to do with your brother?" Eurus asked.

"He tried to save them," Jim said, his voice beginning to shake. "I ran out and he stayed inside. The house collapsed and I thought he was dead because I was too much of a coward to help him."

"Did they find him later?"

"A few days after, when they cleaned everything up. It was the last time I was ever happy to see him, but I don't think he was happy to see me. He got me run over a few years later."

"Are you going to be okay?" Eurus asked, rubbing the side of his face.

"I don't know," Jim answered, his voice rasping.

Eurus pulled him into her. He put his face into her shoulder. He held onto her tighter.

"You're amazing," Jim told her, rubbing her back affectionately.

"Oh stop," Eurus teased. "Anyone could do this."

"Not like you can," Jim replied. "You always know how I feel. I've never met anyone like you before."

"Maybe that's why they locked me up in a tower in the middle of the ocean," Eurus joked.

Jim laughed with her.

"Do you want to try to sleep?" Eurus asked.

"I don't know how I'm supposed to sleep with you here; you're too exciting," Jim said.

"I manage with you here," Eurus said, managing to casually throw a compliment in.

"Well, goodnight," Jim said, lifting his head to look at her.

Eurus felt herself falling headfirst into his deep, brown eyes all over again.

"Goodnight."
