THE NIGHTMARES STARTED TWO DAYS AFTER THAT NIGHT.  Sometimes you would be at the junk yard, other times in the shed where Will was possessed. But this time, you were in the tunnels. The darkness seemed to swallow you whole as you nervously gripped your flashlight with a sweaty hand, looking for the kids and Steve. You couldn't make out your surroundings, and you could barely see twenty feet in front of you as the ground squelched beneath your feet. You shone your flashlight all around you, only to see a black goo dripping from the dank, ominous walls that circled you.

"Steve? Dustin?" you called out, desperate for a response or anything to remind you that you weren't alone.

Nothing.

A growl rumbled in the distance that sounded like it was coming from behind you and it made you quicken your pace. You were stuck there all over again, the night where evil possessed Will Byers right in front of his family and friends and almost succeeded in taking him away for good. But instead, you were alone this time. Your head was spinning and the sounds seemed to become closer and closer. You didn't have any weapons, just a dinky flashlight that flickered here and there. Great.

You turned a corner and tried to take deep breaths, but the particles that floated around you made it hard. You pulled up your t-shirt over your mouth and coughed after inhaling some of it on accident. Suddenly, you heard multiple demon-like groans, and before you could run, four demo-dogs surrounded you. As the creatures stalked towards you, whispers filled your ears like voices in your head and you couldn't process what was happening.

One of the demo-dogs let out a snarl that rang through the air and lunged towards you, pinning both of your shoulders on to the ground. You shrieked and kicked it in the stomach which sent it lurching backwards with a yelp. The other three opened their mouths, emitting ear-piercing shrieks.

You got up and ran as fast as you could across the ground that seemed to drag you down by your ankles, and it seemed to be a never ending pit of darkness that was going to engulf you. You heard your name being yelled repeatedly and the eerie, echoing voice slowly morphed into one you knew, one that was familiar.

"Y/N! Y/N, wake up!"

You nearly screamed with eyes darting in every direction until you recognized the familiar corners of your own room, prompting a deep breath of relief. Someone was shaking your shoulders almost violently and you snapped open your eyes to find Steve's face an inch away from yours. Sweat coated your forehead and multiple strands of hair stuck to your face. "Steve?"

"I'm here, Y/N, I'm here. It's okay." Concern washed over the boy's face as he pushed your hair out of your face and cupped your cheek, looking you in the eyes reassuringly.

Your head and heart were both pounding in your ears and you pulled his hand away forcefully. "Did I hurt you? I didn't realize I was fighting and I hate not being able to control this, I don't know how to stop it-" You threw your hands up and your eyes went wide, quickly filling up with tears.

"Y/N, no, it's fine. I have them too," he quickly interrupted your burst of words. He wrapped his strong arms around you and stroked your hair, igniting a feeling of safety within you. You swore he could feel your heart beating out of your chest because of how close he held you. "Calm down. It's okay, I'm here. It's over."

Tears stained your cheeks and you wiped them away with the hem of your shirt after you pulled away, leaning back against your pillow. "You have them?" you asked, hugging your knees to your chest.

"Hell, I had them the first night I tried to sleep after fighting those goddamn demons," he chuckled, pointing to his under-eyes. "You see these? Yeah, they're from like, twenty sleepless nights in a row. And still counting."

You laughed softly and sniffled, rubbing your now bloodshot eyes. "I think it's kinda sexy, to be honest. The whole tired look." You made a circling motion with your hands around the perimeter of his face.

"If that's the case then I have nothing on Jonathan Byers. Now I see why Nancy dumped me for him," Steve sighed before immediately turning his seriousness into a wide grin.

Your mouth was agape at his joke and you punched him on the arm, evoking an "Ouch, Y/N!"

"I am definitely not sleeping tonight." You glanced at your clock on your nightstand and saw that it was nearly four in the morning.

Steve shook his head and scooted up to you, pulling you by the waist to close the gap between the two of your bodies. "Well, you will, and I'm laying with you until you do," You smiled to yourself and intertwined your hands, resting your face in the crook of his neck. "And I'll be there next time to fight off anything that tries to harm such a pretty face....and you of course."
