It is five in the morning and over the bathroom sink. Yellow bile gurgles down the drain as an egg going through fingers. The smell is one cannot describe it than acid. Rush of water sweeping what is left. My weight brought me to the floor. Pushing ever part of my body on ever cold surface too fight the blazing bush fire on my skin. Bones ache more pronounce from the cold. The conflicting pain takes away any brief relief for sleep. A gentle knock
"Toby can I come in?" ask mum.
Whimpering out a "please."
Mum still young with golden hair and doleful eyes. Beside her in scuttles a parasite of military grade. It appears to have a horseshoe head a tear drop body. An animal of a prehistoric age that mum name Ichabod. She had Ichabod at the age of twenty one. Mum has photos of Ichabod growing on her back. She is seventy now, she still looks thirty nine. Ichabod lean against my leg. With the back of her hand mum place the back of her hand on my forehead.
"Sweetie you're burning" her eyes scanning for any signs for other than pain "Are you alright for a shower, maybe able to take some pain killers."
The shower sound great. If the water can sweep away the sickness away, nodding my head in agreement.
"Okay" mums hand squeeze my shoulder giving the comfort "I be back with the pain killers."
She walks away without a sound. Closing my eyes for a brief moment; tensing as a wave of nausea. One hand tightens on the lip of the sink combating a war of the deep sinking ache. Shoulders tighten as a throb that can be described as a fridge hum, something there but something that can be ignored. The rhythmic tapping takes the edge of thoughts away from the pain. Ichabod is still in the bathroom. Opening my eyes into slivers; not wanting to feel the harsh light. If it can be describe as a sound when the world has become too quiet it is unnerving that drives people to tears. Ichabod came close gently nuzzle into my leg. Ichabod is not a friendly.
"I see that you are going have to call in sick." Mum voice tired.
This time I notices the small wrinkles around her eyes and small Taking the glass of glass from her hand. The water fuzz as joplets sprinkle send prickles on the skin. Taking a slip of the water, as the flavour of blackberry roll down my tongue.
"You should be in bed." I said. "Don't you have a morning commitment?"
Mum tap on Ichabod. Before he can crawl onto her back there is a large crack in its amour. Mum must have gotten into a fight during working as bouncer.
"Ow nothing much just a louse guy trying to pick up a girl only that girl just so happen to have a girlfriend." Smiling at something funny; something that had happen.
This was new as people tend to back away when they find out that they don't have a chance to hook up.
"So"
Mum smile even wider "I had to escort him out. As well with his friend"
Now I am really interested. She was taking her time she knew that I want to know more.
"Well I had to twist his friend wrist that man tried to take me from behind. You should have seen their surprise when I had a black bug as a companion." A chortle escapes.
"Well!"
"I had made one march and the other get a bit of bug control."
Smiling wide distracts me form the pain. Giving renew energy to drink the blackberry flavour water down.
I hand over back the cup as the painkiller start to do its magic.
"Okay Toby, have a shower and get back" closing the door behind her.
