Today's the day. The birthday he's been waiting for since he can remember. It is finished. He can be free.Since today is his last day of the never ending torture that is his life, he figures he should at least do a little something to celebrate so he sterilises and bandages his wounds for what he hopes to be the final time before slipping on his shoes and heading out of the door.
Immediately after stepping out onto the streets he feels a weight off of his shoulders and he puts one of his headphones in, leaving the other out to listen to what going on around him.
The sweet, simple melody of the song blasting in his ear lowers his anxiety and makes it possible for him to be in public at all.
Have you ever felt someone looking at you in an unpleasant manner? Well this is what the boy felt every time he managed to even get out of the house. The hate-filled whispers he hears lead him dangerously close to a panic attack even before getting to his first destination.
It's not like he imagines it all, either. People peek out from behind their curtains, desperately straining their eyes to get a glimpse of the poor abused boy that they worry about so much that they could never be arsed to ring the police.
Well, except for one lady. But the young boy doesn't like to relive that harsh time.
The boy slowly travels his way into the town as he sets route for the local coffee shop.
It's one of the only places he feels partially safe. This is partly because of the warm atmosphere of the small, calming vibe but also because of the small booth at the back of the family owned cafe that allows him almost full protection from the world whilst still being able to observe everything going on around him at that moment.
It's the place he comes to to get away from the cruel, harsh reality of his life simply by grabbing a hot chocolate and a croissant and barricading himself in the back corner with pillow walls as protection.
As he walks up to the door he stops for a second to regain a regular breathing pattern in order to at least blend in like a normal human amongst a swarm of people attempting to get home from work and out of the rain as quickly as humanly possible.
In a his unfocused state the boy is suddenly pushed aside by a busy woman obviously trying to get somewhere fast, causing him to stumble slightly into an alley before falling harshly onto his arse.
The sudden loss of control sends his mental state spiralling quickly and he starts to lose control of his breathing and his ability to separate the past from the present.
He is left untended to by the culprit of this break down and so is left sobbing violently in in an alley, his whole body jerking at the force of the action.
That was at least until an innocent bystander on his way home after leaving the coffee shop heard chocked back cries erupting from the alleyway.
"Hey, are you alright? My name's Kim Seokjin. Don't worry, you're safe now."
