Chapter 10

Amy's POV

The effect would have been better if I had been wearing stilettos, but I do feel like I frightened most of the passing students to an extent. That plus the stony expression in my eyes made the first years practically jump out of the way. Those that knew me or at least had seen seen me around knew of my typically cold demeanor but the fresh meat around were completely unfamiliar. I quite liked the feeling.

I had to hide the package under my robes. Draco, being the sissy that he is, made me bring the cursed necklace into Hogsmeade. So, when I bundled up to go outside in the chilly winter air, I had to shove a wrapped necklace under my jacket. Friggin Draco. I didn't want to do this.

Not that I was nervous or anything - I wasn't. But I honestly would rather have spent the afternoon sleeping. I hoped that I could get in, get out, and leave this whole mess behind me (hopefully ending up wrapped in my warm blankets in my warm dormitory in the warm school as opposed to the -100000 degree winter outside).

Besides, if I got caught, or if this whole thing got traced back to me, I would be in a whole new world of hurt. And it wouldn't only be coming from Dumbledore and the teachers or any other wizarding officials who may get involved, but (and this is what petrified me the most) my father as well.

I wasn't technically supposed to be helping Draco right now. My father had explicitly told me not to interfere with Draco's mission. If he found out what I was doing, he would surely make my world a living hell.

"Damn," I murmured under my breath. Probably for the millionth time this year, I wished I was a normal student.

But I wasn't, and I had to role with that. So, like I always did, I formulated a plan in my head to bring my father's enemies to the ground.

Harry's POV

As Ron, Hermione, and I sat down at the Three Broomsticks, I had more than a butterbeer in mind. Dumbledore gave me the task of getting close to Slughorn. It seemed an easy task, you know, seeing as though Slughorn was pretty much the friendliest person in the entire world.

What made the task even easier was the fact that Slughorn approached me himself. I didn't even have to go to him first before he was shouting at me across the small cafe. Ron, Hermione, and I had been sitting down for maybe five minutes before the Potions teacher noticed us. I had been ignoring the bickering of the two of my friends. It almost caused me physical pain to act nonchalant at the mention of Ginny's name - even moreso, the mention of Ginny kissing another boy in the same cafe we were in at that very moment.

But Slughorn soon distracted me from that. He sauntered over, loudly booming, "HARRY, M'BOY!" I stood up to greet him, ignoring the amused yet perplexed expression.

"Hello, sir, wonderful to see you!" I exclaimed. "What brings you here today, sir?"

"Oh, the Three Broomsticks and I go way back. Longer than I'd care to admit. In fact, I remember when it was simply One Broomstick!" Slughorn said cheerily.

I chuckled along with him, inwardly wincing when he splashed his drink dangerously close to Hermione. At that moment, from behind Ron and Hermione, I saw another familiar face. Amy walked out of the bathroom, nearly bumping into Katie Bell on the way out. She caught my eye and walked over, standing next to Slughorn. He didn't notice her right away, but turned my head when I nodded in greeting at her.

Upon seeing her, he jumped, obviously startled for some reason. He put a hand to his chest. "Miss Wolfe, I didn't see you there!"

She raised an eyebrow, but spoke with an apologetic voice. "I didn't mean to sneak up on you like that, sorry!"

Slughorn chuckled, then turned back to me. "Listen, m'boy. In the old days, I used to throw together the occasional supper and invite a select student or two. Would you be game?"

"I'd consider it an honor, sir," I responded, nodding my head slightly. I had to agree with Hermione and Ron on this one. I was acting too out of character, even I noticed it. Apparently Amy did too, seeing as she was biting her lip to stop herself from laughing.

"You'd be welcome too, Granger," Slughorn addressed Hermione.

"I'd be delighted sir," Hermione replied, finishing the last of her drink.

Slughorn paused. He seemed to be contemplating something, then turned to Amy. "And of course you as well, Miss Wolfe!"

Amy paused, taken aback. "I - of course, sir."

Amy's POV

Ew. Everything about Slughorn made me want to punch a wall. I blinked a few times in shock, but had accepted his invitation to his party or whatever. Finally he had sauntered off in his constant cheeriness. I felt like a weight had been lifted off of my chest. I did the thing for Draco, and the locket was now sitting in the girl's restroom. I had put a girl under the Imperius curse on the way in, so her orders were now to pick up the necklace and bring it to... well, I can't just go telling that to anyone, can I?

I just wanted to sleep. I was tired. I didn't need any of this right now. But of course I ran into Harry Potter, because for some reason the world just doesn't want me to win.

"What are you playing at?" Ron asked Harry.

I sat down next to them, deciding it would be a little too suspicious if I came into the Three Broomsticks, went to the bathroom, and left.

"Dumbledore asked me to get to know him," Harry explained.

"Get to know him?" Ron questioned.

"I dunno. But it must be important, otherwise Dumbledore wouldn't ask," Harry answered.

I sighed. "So you're becoming a teacher's pet?" Harry frowned at this, but I smirked, shaking my head. "Nah, we're all teacher's pets if we're going to those stupid-ass parties," I answered.

Harry chuckled. "Oh, come on. Slughorn isn't that bad."

"I don't like him. I much preferred Snape -"

"Whoa."

It deemed exhausting, pretending like this. I didn't have a problem with it most of the time, but at times like this when I needed my bed on a spiritual level, it was much harder than I thought. Eventually Potter and his friends left, and I decided to tag along.

That's when everything came crashing down around me. It was always wrong place, worse time for me, wasn't it?
