Chapter 15 :

Carlo leaned against the polished, steel railing of the stairs

which lead up to the second floor of his night club boredly watching the humans amuse themselves.

He was wearing a leather , tuxedo style Dolce and Gabanna jacket over a white, silk dress shirt and leather pants.

Below him the dance floor was packed and the scent of human blood would have been maddening had Carlo not fed an hour ago.

He briefly considered joing them.

He was an accomplished danceer who usually enjoyed to "cut a rug" amidst the humans.

But not tonight.

This time he was using his telepathic gift to search out any potential threat to the Anderssons.

As their unofficial "protector" this came with the territory.

In fact Carlo loved Karl Andersson's children as much as he could possibly love any human.

To a being 800 years old passionate emotions like love or hate were meaningless.

What was meaningful comprised the necessary things for survival which meant blood in the case of Carlo Mancini.

All of Carlo's family had died out in Florence Italy, either as the result of war, disease or human caprice.

Making him the only Mancini left.

Karl's children didn't exactly take the place of Carlo's family although caring for them gave new purpose to his life.

He had made certain changes to his will several days ago with them in mind.

The thought brought a brief smile of joy to Carlo's melancholy expression.

Then his eyes riveted toward the corner where the bald and

grotesquely tattoed bouncer, Dmitri stood next to one of Thad's lycans.

A small frown wrinkled the white skin of Carlo's brow as he clearly heard Dmitri's thoughts.

The man didn't trust the lycan and had sensed something disturbing about his hulking presence.

Concentrating slightly, Carlo sent soothing thought waves toward the human and the man visably relaxed somewhat.

Tilting his head the lycan briefly met Carlo's eye as if to say thank you.

The vampire nodded in acknowledgement before returning his attention to the dance floor.

Violet had contacted the Wulfric agency and Thad sent over four of his

best fighters along with the promise that he would send more if necessary.

Right now the second and third lycans were patrolling the outer perimeter of

the nightclub including the parking garage while the fourth gaurded the third floor apartment.

Carlo had no doubt that Eric Winters would make a move tonight.

The younger vampire was reputed to be hotheaded and ruthless.

His great contempt for vampires of Carlo's generation equally matched Eric's hatred for humans.

To Eric humans were no better than cattle.

Carlo leaned forward to get a better look at the entrance where several

vampires had crowded around the human bouncers named Tino and Felix.
