"as you all know, we have a group project every term," our science teacher, mr. jung said, unamused. the entire class sighed. he sighed before continuing," your partners will be picked by a lucky draw. so note down your names and roll it up."
he then handed each of us a sticky note as i jotted my name down. i didn't really make any friends apart from hendery's yet, so hopefully this project will help. after all of the rolled up names were collected, mr. jung shuffled them in a container, before picking one.
"cha haerin? step forward and pick a name from the bowl," he called out, pointing at the bowl full of names. haerin pulled her palms to a fist, hoping for a good partner. she grabbed a name and smiled at her paper. "kim naomi!" she beamed.
i hope my pick is good too. "i hope i get minhee as my partner!" "me too!" i heard the girls behind me chatter excitedly.
minhee will only be nice to you if you have a good reputation, other than that, she's nothing but a pretty face. it was only my first week, and she already called me a bunch of names. "liang yingyue!" mr. jung called out.
i sighed and picked a random name. ~ 정민희 jung minhee ~ it read in a bold black pen. luck was really not by my side today.
minhee seemed to have the same reaction as me, as i heard her sigh heavily. "now i shall brief you about the project..." mr. jung continued for the rest of the lesson. then the lunch bell finally rang.
i packed my bag and headed straight down. i collected my food and walked towards hendery's friends. "hey ying!" yangyang called out. he was probably the only friend i have in class, since the rest of them are one year older.
da hyeol was unusually quiet during lunch but i shrugged it off. "i have the worst luck," i exclaimed. jae eun chuckled, "why so?" and i ranted to her about everything.
"well, maybe she might be helpful? come on ying, give her a chance," hendery encouraged, smiling at me. i shrugged and continued my meal. i thought about what hendery said. maybe it might turn out well?
i took out my phone and took the chance.
