Heavy gasps could be heard at the nearby alley, a place where prostitutes and druggies get their "fix". Down there all horrendous stuff can be seen even to a mere passerby. But there was one person that was there for a different reason.
His eyes glazed and his breath came up in small puffs of clouds; his hands and noses glued to the windows. Everyday different sweets were strategically placed to attract customers : Long ropes of liquorice, hundreds of sour lollies and sour worms, chocolate frogs, bonbon, sherbets galore! But his utmost favourite lolly of them all was Hubba Bubba Gum. The gum was wounded up so that it looked similar to tape- and oh how it stretched it was blown.
Of course Nicholas never tried it but the kids at school did. All day, every day; even when they weren’t supposed to. He always dreamed of blowing up a bubble that would make the kids at school to envy HIM for change. But he couldn't buy it, he never had the money, he never had anything.
Now the longer Nick stared the hungrier he got, the hungrier he got the more his heart started to whisper to him.
Get it nick, take it Nick, you know you want it Nick, you’re poor Nick, everyone forgives the poor Nick, get it Nick TAKE IT NICK, STEAL IT NICK TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKETAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKETAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKETAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKETAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKETAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKETAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKETAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKETAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKETAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE-
"Stop!" breathed Nick clutching his head in frustration. He made an oath to never steal again and he wasn’t prepared to break the promise so early on.
Realising that it was pointless to incessantly stare at something he will never get , Nicholas settled on to going to school...but first he had to go to the train station; and he had to be quick. Peak hours were starting in ten minutes.
Grudgingly he moved away from the window leaving behind amorphous foggy areas where his nose and mouth breathed into. He trudged on, with his head down, to walk to the train station singing the song he made up with his older brother about their favourite treat.
Bubble gum, Bubble gum, Bubble gum
Chew it, Chew it, Chew it
Blow it, Blow it, Blow it
POP!
