Tris never actually died when she was shot in the Weapons Lab. As her mother was extending her hand towards her, she passed out. And then she woke up in an unfamiliar body. Tris had woken up eight year old Primrose Everdeen’s body. Tris, now known as ‘Prim’, had lost everything. Her home, her family, her friends, her Tobias. Oh, Tobias, how would he have dealt with the news? He thought she was dead, cold and stiff, and she was. That life was dead. This Prim looked similar to Tris’ old body she wasn’t 17, she wasn’t Divergent, she wasn’t in Chicago, she wasn’t in a relationship with Four. And that saddened her. Tris wanted to go back but knew she never could. This was her life now. Tobias would move on and so would she. Eventually, Tris grew to understand and almost love life in District Twelve with her “mother” and her “sister”, Katniss. She learned that Primrose’s father had died in a mining accident years ago. She also learned that the baker’s son, Peeta Mellark, loved Katniss Everdeen. Tris could tell from the way he looked at her. It was the same way Tobias had looked at her back in the day. Tris still wasn’t used to not being able to go and see Tobias. A tear escaped every time she thought of her lost lover. Primrose dragged Katniss to the bakery every moment she could so that Peeta would be able to get a glimpse of his sweetheart. When they were leaving each time, he would catch Tris’ eye and smile gratefully, a silent thank you. She loved her new sister, and she could tell Peeta loved Katniss so she was happy to help. She liked pPeeta too but he was not Four. So that was why it was so hard to watch Katniss and Peeta thrown into the arena of the 74th Hunger Games with Gale. She had never really liked Gale, something was telling her to be careful of him, but he made sure to feed Tris and Mrs Everdeen. They won. And then they were pushed into the Quarter Quell and Primrose watched as Katniss began to love Peeta deeply. Tris sat in someone else’s body while her sister in this world became the symbol of rebellion. The Mockingjay. Primrose helped in the rebellion as much as she could, healing the wounded and fixing the sick. Tris didn’t know how she could but it seemed that Prim’s talent had stayed. On the day the rebels were going to take the Capitol, a bad feeling was present in her stomach. And it was right. That was the day that Primrose Everdeen died. A bomb fell from above in the shape of a silver parachute. Prim was rushing to help the wounded when a second explosion went off, causing Primrose to become a human torch. Katniss thinks that Primrose’s last words had been her name, “Katniss!”, but Tris had screamed for Tobias, knowing that this would be her last chance. At least she had been able to let Peeta have his chance with Katniss before the Capitol had gotten him. Second chance only, right? Wrong. Tris woke up, sucking in a massive gulp of air. She was back as Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior, daughter of Andrew and Natalie Prior, sister of Caleb Prior, girlfriend of Tobias Eaton. Tobias, she whispered, her voice raspy and cracking. Tris stood and ran out the door of the morgue, desperately searching for the one true love of her life. On her way to his room where Four had been when Tris first died, she ran into Christina and Matthew. Matthew stared at Tris as she ran and Christina screamed loud and long. Others came out of their rooms to see what the commotion was. It must have about 10 o’clock at night. Tris ran until her lungs hurt and her legs had turned to jelly. But she eventually reached Tobias’ old door and knocked rapidly. Four opened the door with dirty sweatpants and no shirt on. Tris struggled to catch her breath but managed to say “I love you, Tobias Eaton,” and press a quick kiss to his lips before she passed out into his arms. Tobias couldn’t believe she was alive, but that didn’t stop him from taking Tris to his bedroom and laying her down on the bed. He lied down next to her and vowed to fix all of this in the morning if it wasn’t a dream before he fell asleep. Tris had been dead for five years, it couldn’t be real. But it was. The next morning, they woke up to each other’s faces, completely gobsmacked that Tris was still alive. She was the first to recover some. She reached out and stroked Tobias’ cheek lovingly. “It’s real. I’m alive. And I’m not leaving you any time soon.”
