CHAPTER 10
**ALANA’S POV**
“Kate, what the hell is going to happen? I hate him. I’m supposed to hate him. I should hate him. I need to hate him. WHAT THE HELL DID I DO!?” I cry, nearly tearing my hair out in anxiety as I pace restlessly around our shared hotel room.
“Well he is hot…” she breaks off with a heated glare from me. I am such an idiot and seriously, I shouldn’t care. It’s only a coffee. It better be Starbucks. Hang on a minute. Oh God, what if he thinks this is a date! I am seriously thinking about digging myself a hole.
“What. Did. I. Do” I say while banging my head against a wall at every word. Kate slides her hand under my forehead to stop myself from losing even more brain cells.
“Come on Ali, give him a chance and if he hurts you again I’ll turn his hair into a mop” she laughs at her own joke. A small smile curls up to my lips. I remove my head from the wall and start pacing nervously again, a million thoughts flying through my head.
What happens in the paparazzi catches us? I am just a little, eighteen year old, English journalist. Nothing important, nothing for people to fawn over. Just a girl with a shattered past and a more hopeful future. Nothing important.
But this same girl could be swept up into a swirling storm that could easily knock her off her feet if she isn’t careful. She has to stand her ground and fight like she has been doing so all her life. She has stare life in the face and never give up.
“Alana Jane Patterson!” my cousin shouts over my thoughts. I look at her blankly, trying to escape memories of the past.
“Harry Styles. Coffee. Those three words mean anything to you?” she asks me rudely, crossing her arms and tapping her foot impatiently. I sigh
“Suppose… OH MY FRICKEN GOD WHY AM I DOING THIS!!” and then I’m pushed out the door and into the big wide world.
“KATE-BOO WANTS A CAMERAL MILKSHAKE!” she screams before shutting the door in my face, nearly taking off my nose. Kate-Boo? Really? And she wants a milkshake. No way, that’ll make her go into her ghetto phase. Don’t ask why.
And… oh stuff.
He’s there with a little smirk on his face.
This is going to be interesting.
“Do we have to take a car?” I groan as we approach a large, black Range Rover. He looks back at me with an amused expression.
“How else are we going to get there?” he asks me with the same little smirk on his face. Oh how I would love to wipe it off. While I’m daydreaming of how to get it off his face, my practical side of the brain is answering for me and the side which is partly controlled by my hormones. I frown at him. Well you won that round Styles but you haven’t won the war. Oh wait, comeback.
“Because it feels” I pause for a second trying to find the words “date-like” he leans against the car and grins at me
“Well, if you want…” he trails off into silence for effect. I narrow my eyes slightly and turn around abruptly, making my back face him.
“Ali come on” he begs. I stop, not because he asked me to but because he used my nickname, Ali. That word shouldn’t be coming out of his mouth but as much as I hate to admit it, it sounds better from him anyone else.
“Three strikes and I’m leaving and that Mr Styles was number one” I tell him, looking at him with my arms crossed in a defensive position
“Okay, I promise” he says quietly, staring up at me through his eyelashes. He really wants to do this I realize. I soften slightly. It’s hard to hold on to hate for so long and I can feel it slipping through my fingers like sand.
**HARRY’S POV**
“Alright then, fair enough but just forget that I told you that my cousin thinks that she is Cat-Woman in disguise and likes me to call her Katisha” she laughs, tossing her hair back from her neck.
“I’ll try, but does she really pretend that she is a whale?” I ask her, nearly laughing myself. Her cousin so weird, nearly as weird as Louis. At least she doesn’t pretend that she is pregnant and is having a kid called Willis.
She throws her head back, a laugh working its way through her body. She stops and rolls her eyes at me.
“Don’t tell her that I told you that either” she adds, playing with her straw between her long, elegant fingers. Can you call fingers elegant? Well that’s just Alana. Elegant.
“Or what?” I ask her, her forehead scrunches together a little as she tries to think of a suitable threat, it doesn’t come.
“You’ll see” she whispers in a menacing voice, trying to be scary. Not going to work. It just isn’t in her personality. Well, she can be a little scary when she wants to be I suppose; I’ve seen that side of her enough to know that. Though this is different, at first she was a little up tight but now, she has loosened up a bit. And I learnt that she doesn’t like the player thing. And that she has inherited a little of her cousins insanity. I like it. She’s being herself, not trying to be anyone else.
“I don’t think you could hurt a fly” I say, my voice cracking at the end with laughter. She smiles at me. The first real one. It warms a little place inside my heart, I want to take capture this moment and keep it close for forever.
“Well on that note I better get going, so I can kill some flies” she sighs and get up from the metal chair. I feel my heart sink ever so slightly. Ugh, stupid, STUPID emotions.
“Better make sure that your cousin is not pretending to be Cat-Woman” I chuckle, also standing up from the uncomfortable seat. She laughs again and slaps my cheek gently
“I thought you forgot about that” she says, a slight tremble in her voice as she controls her laughter. I raise my eyebrows, she does exactly the same. I think I like this girl.
**ALANA’S POV**
“Right bye Harry” I say, facing him. He made me smile. I think he is well on the way on getting my forgiveness.
“Bye Ali” he says quietly, I smile slightly again. He looks at me, something in his eyes that nearly makes my heart break. He wants me to forgive him for something he doesn’t even know about, doesn’t even remember. I have to do it.
I take a deep breath in and hug him, my head sliding just above his shoulder. A sharp intake of breath comes from his mouth. But his arms hesitantly snake around my waist and gently pull me in closer, like he is trying to stop me from hating him again. His head nestles just on top of mine, giving me the scent of his aftershave. A nice smell. I shouldn’t be thinking that. I can’t stay even though I would like to. I extract myself from his arms.
“That’s enough for today” I tell him with the smallest of winks and walk off to where my ride is waiting.
Those teenage emotions were creeping up on me again
But this time, I didn’t stop them.
