By the time I got to class, I was shaking in fear, my hands were trembling and my heartbeat kept on racing. I'm glad that the teacher was not here and no one noticed me taking a seat in the front row. I don't have any idea what just happened in the corridor but I took a deep breath trying to control myself when-
"Hi! I'm Gracy, Is this seat reserved for somebody?" A blonde girl asked which startled me.
"Hey! I'm Amelia and no, you can sit here. This seat is not taken." I told her with courtesy.
She had a fair complexion with light blue-green eyes, long dark eye lashes and blonde shoulder-length hair. She placed her bag on the floor and settled down. Also, her hands were perfectly manicured which gave her a more feminine look.
"So, um, do you have any friends? And if you don't, I would be pleased to get to know you. Besides, everyone seem to have their own gang. We could start by creating one on our own."
She is indeed an exuberant human being. The kind of person who is full of energy, excitement, and cheerfulness.
"I don't mind but I don't actually need a gang. Having a good friend, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life."
"Done! You've got my back and I got yours! We can survive this in pairs. Go girl power!" Gracy exclaimed enthusiastically before a lady teacher entered the room.
"Shhhh, Everyone! Please sit down and be quiet!"
When there was complete silence, she continued: "My name is Jane Brooks and I am your Mathematics Teacher. Before we proceed, I would like to get to know my students better. So why don't you all, one by one, come and present yourself in front of the class. This way you'll be acquainted with your classmates."
We could hear groaning from the back benchers but it did not take much longer than fifteen minutes to introduce ourselves.
"Nice to meet you all and now, we will start with a basic chapter in math. Algebra 1! Is there any volunteer who can give me its definition?" She asked while writing the topic name on the whiteboard.
Both, Gracy and I, raised our arms simultaneously.
"Miss Whitmore." She pointed her marker towards Gracy.
"In its most general form, algebra is the study of mathematical symbols and the rules for manipulating these symbols; it is a unifying thread of almost all of mathematics."
"Good and Miss Collins, can you give me some examples?"
"For instance: functions, real numbers, inequalities, exponents, polynomials, radical and rational expressions."
I could feel all eyes on us.
"I'm amazed to discover that students still do their research work beforehand. Keep it up you two!"
After two hours of calculating algebra problems, we looked at each other clearly satisfied with our answers before exiting our class.
It was finally lunch time and we were beaming all over with joy as we have impressed our tutor on the very first day itself. Going into the canteen, my attention was drawn towards the group of boys seated at the back who was chilling together.
Come on! Out of 40000 students, why do I only get to see him?!
"That's the perfect spot. Let's go there."
We sat near a window, far enough for him not to see me. I unzipped my bag and took out my lunch.
"I'm starving, I could literally eat a horse right now! Just gonna get my food. Till then, wait for me!" Gracy queued up waiting for her turn.
