I said today that I'm gonna stop,
Don't need no one to say that I've had too much,
But I just kept pouring one last glass,
'Coz the wine that I had was never enough.I laugh, "Drinking's part of the past!"
As I drink this one slowly to make sure it lasts,
My tongue was in hunger of every last drop,
Every precious taste of my one last glass. And so I savor the taste of my drink,
Now I set my glass down on the kitchen sink,
But my shaking hands cannot stop themselves,
From taking one more bottle on top of the shelf.I wanna quit but I'm feeling sick,
I feel I'll get sicker the moment I quit,
The doctors keep saying that I drink too much,
But I feel what I drink was never enough. They tell me to stop but it just isn't fair,
How when I leave the booze, I'm gasping for air,
And I try to sleep but I sneak one last drink,
Coz drink one more glass is all I can think.I'm in want or a need, I cannot be sure,
I'm trapped in an illness that nothing can cure,
I said this is the last, I've said that before,
But with every last glass, I keep wanting more.I hold back the tears as I try not to think,
Of that one fateful dare back one college eve,
"Drink up! Bottoms up!" they were yelling at me,
It was the start of an end I was too young to see.My wallet was wasted on booze and on wine,
And now I have nothing, not even a dime,
I flunked all my classes and suffered a fine,
Coz spending on drinking was what filled all my time.My baby has left me and called me insane,
She yelled I was a drunk and that I'll never change,
I said I was sorry, I swore I would stop,
She said she still loves me but she never came back.Been left out of dinners for Thanksgiving day,
Been told I'm not their kid and that I am a shame,
I can't count the days I've been behind bars,
The nights of arrest 'coz I hit someone's car.I said today that I'm gonna stop,
I need to quit drinking coz I've had too much,
But I open the bottle for just one more last,
One last precious taste of one last glass.
