---Jessica POV---

The gentle sounds of whispering waves crashing against the shore created the rocking melodies of nature's precious gifts. The sand was hot beneath my feet, but not uncomfortably so. It was a gentle heat that centered the absolute perfection of the moment.

Deanna's arm rested around my shoulders and my hand had crawled up to twine my fingers with her. The slight breeze twisted my long white skirt around our legs and tangled my loose curls.

Sighing peacefully, I glanced up at Deanna's face and a smile touched my lips. The setting sun created a halo behind her head; the effect was that of an ancient hero that God had blessed upon the earth. And she was mine. All mine. I'd seen enough of the way that other women ogled her to know just how lucky I was. Like I hadn't known it before.

I looked up at her again, just because I could and felt a slight heat brush my already rosy cheeks.

My gosh, she was amazing. Even after being with her for a year and 8 months, my passion for her hadn't faded, not by any extent of the imagination. If anything, I was more in love with her than ever before.

The intensity of my stare drew her. Breaking her gaze from the ruby horizon, Deanna turned her gorgeous chocolate peeps towards me.

Raising an eyebrow at the sight of my blushing cheeks, she inquired teasingly, "So, what I do this time, babe?" A grin hovered around her adorable dimples. My heart sped up at the sound of her voice, causing the red on my cheeks to deepen, "No, wait, don't tell me. Was it my daring good looks? Or the eagle that had been insistently stalking us since we got here?"

Releasing the embracing hold she had on my shoulders, Deanna jumped forward, twisting in the air so she faced me when she landed.

Sand flew everywhere and I laughed helplessly, tears of laughter forming as the enormous cloud of dust descended on her, and she emerged coughing.

The look on her face was such that it doubled me over. Deanna smiled hugely as my unladylike snorts reached her ears. She leaned closer until she was inches away from my face.

"But wait," she said slowly, her brown eyes scanning my twinkling blue ones mischievously, "Could it have been, perhaps, wishful thinking on your part? Maybe you wanted something a little more than just a walk on the beach?"

My laughter stopped abruptly, and I glared at her and her implication. How dare she! Pivoting on my heel, I turned away from her and stared resolutely out at the golden waves.

"Deep breathes," I told myself. I shut my eyes, concentrating on Mother Nature's soothing sounds and... her laughter. Her full, ecstatic merriment.

Deanna's footsteps caught me by surprise and I jumped slightly as her arms wrapped around me from behind.

"Shush, my darling," she chuckled softly, voice speaking softly in my ears, "That's not what I meant, you overreacting, beautiful woman!" I turned slowly in her arms, and buried my head in her chest.

I felt Deanan's fingers touch my chin and gently manouver it up to eye level. My fury diminished as I took in the seriousness and earnestness that was etched into her face, "Sweetheart, that's not the way it was supposed to sound and you know it."

Finally I spoke, "Yeah, I know," My words were soft, "but sometimes I can't be sure! Sometimes I can't tell if that's good enough for---" the pressure of Deanna's lips on mine cut off whatever else I was going to say.

As if of their own accord, my arms came up and twined around her neck, drawing her closer. Deanna's hands stayed appropriately on my waist, but tightened around it. Passion flowed through me and I sighed wistfully as I pulled away from her.
