Howdy folks, I know it's been a massively long time since we last updated this fic and honestly there were so many things wrong with it that we've cleaned up. I hope you enjoy this because I felt hella inspired to make it.
Lots of love,

Maya stirred. She was barely conscious and half covered in snow. Her ears were ringing, and she was lucky to be alive. Axton leant over her, sighing deeply with relief."Thank fucking God, I thought you were dead!" Said Axton, a tone of decreasing panic in his voice.
Maya glanced around groggily. He seemed practically unharmed, without a single scratch.
"W-where are we? What h-happened?" She mumbled through fear and cold.
"The front of that train was loaded with explosives. Floor to ceiling. You got the biggest blast of it all. The carriage we were in skidded off into the snow." He explained frantically.
"The others got separated- they were in the carriage behind. I don't know where they are."
"We should look for them, what if they're hurt?" She replied, trying to get up and stumbling back down.
"That's exactly why we shouldn't look. You've been knocked out for nearly four hours. They've either left or they're dead."
"But!- hold on, why did you wait four hours for me? Why didn't you just assume I was dead too?"
"I checked your pulse first so I knew you weren't dead, but that's not why I stayed." He remarked, as if this should've been blatantly obvious to her.
"Then why?!"
"You saved my life!" Maya was genuinely oblivious to that. She couldn't remember a damn thing. Why would she have saved a guy she barely knew when she could have died herself? It didn't make sense.
"You used your weird powers to shield me from the blast, you took the whole hit." Everything made sense now. She'd instinctively protected him. But why? They argued and bickered constantly, but she was weirdly defensive of him with Jack. He was like an annoying little brother! Maybe that was just it. He was like an annoying brother that she feels the necessity to care for. She wiped that thought from her head.
"Don't get used to it." She groaned offhandedly,.
Axton offered her an arm and she pulled herself up, using Axton to take the weight off of her leg, which was twisted and bruised sure, but broken and bloody was unlikely.
"Did any of the supplies survive the blast? Weapons, shields, meds?"
"If they did, they're with Zer0 and Salvador." Axton heaved out with a deep sigh.
"Fan-fucking-tastic" Maya quipped, sarcastically.
Like some weird 3 legged skag, they trudged through snow until they found a road of cracked tarmac. They followed the winding path for what felt like hours, tracing the bends and curves of ice on Maya's crippled leg. They reached a fork in a road that lead to a seemingly abandoned cluster of crappily made buildings, with doorways covered in just cloth and blood stains haphazardly dotting the camp, barrels of various toxic components.
Still exercising caution, Maya ducked behind a fence where two small crates were. She cracked the first one open, a round red container full of pistol ammo. The other, a grey case containing a pistol and an Anshin 'rejuvenator'. She popped the cap off and plunged the needle into her stomach and immediately was flooded with relief. Every second the pain slowly melted away.
Axton darted a little further around the edge where there was another crate and a bullymong bone pile. He checked the box, again ammo and a grenade, and in the bone pile; a low level pistol, Not great, but good enough for now, and twenty bucks.
Suddenly, the sharp sound of screeching fills their eardrums. A psycho emerges from the top of the shacks, brandishing a buzz axe and hollering for his comrades. Reflexively the pair split in two different directions. Maya, sliding behind a barricade of scrap metal, trapped the psycho in a phaselock and charged forwards, emptying a magazine into him.
Axton darted left, deploying a sabre turret in the centre of the buildings and darting up a makeshift staircase and digging into a marauder with his tomahawk, and finishing him off with a critical pistol shot.
A badass marauder ripped his way out of the hut down below. Maya shot at a flammable barrel and torched that sucker. She darted away from the stream of bullets whilst waiting for her phaselock to regenerate. Axton threw a grenade hitting the badass perfectly, swinging a toilet door open to find an Torgue assault rifle, a Tediore SMG and two shields. Axton quickly equipped the assault rifle and shield, and shouted maya down, who was concentrating heavily on busting a cap in that badass. She sprinted and jumped equipping both of the remaining items immediately and opening fire at the badass. Axton got one last critical hit and the marauder fell to the floor, dropping $123 and some ammo.
The unusual pairing carried on walking along the road, for just a minute hoping that they'd find some way to get there quicker, but no. They walked for miles until they found themselves being bombarded by bullet fire from a car crawling with bandits. Maya hit the car with phaselock, immediately dealing damage, she followed up by shooting the driver, a shotgun midget, and launching the empty mag at the car. Axton shot the gunner until he fell out of the car and crunched under the wheels. They hopped into the car, Axton in the drivers seat and Maya in the gunner seat. Axton hit the accelerator and swerved rabidly down the road, hitting trees, walls, anything.
"FUCKING MOVE IT I'LL DRIVE" shouted Maya, after Axton hit the 6th tree. Maya rolled headfirst into the drivers seat, with a degree of grace given the circumstances, and Axton grabbed onto the turret and pulled his legs in.
Maya was a much more controlled driver; she controlled the car on each twist, turn and bend. Soon enough and without any (serious) accidents they made it to sanctuary, and banged their fists against the gates.
