2 days later...
It was early in the morning; the weather was warm. Elliot enjoyed his drive to the airport; he was picking up his parents and he was really excited for them to meet Lily. Sadly, she had a bad bout of morning sickness and decided to stay back home.
Elliot waited outside the pickup area by his car, he looked down at his watch. They should have landed. Folding his arms across his chest he looked around at all the people coming and going. He was a bit nervous about how they would react. The way things had panned out was less than ideal. Elliot would have waited for a child, but he didn't regret it one bit. He steeled himself as he saw his parents stepping outside the baggage area. "Hey over here!" he waved so they saw him. He loved his parents, even with the strict upbringing. If it weren't for the military life, he grew up in he never would have met his best friends, became a cop or met Lily. It had been nice since he graduated from the academy, his parents had really become more laid back, they were getting older.
"Son!" his beefy older self slapped him had on the back. Everyone always said Elliot was the spitting image of his father. They shared the same build and bright blue eyes. His mother, on the other hand, was a tiny little thing, much like Lily but less meat on her bones. Elliot liked that Lily was soft.
Elliot smiled, giving them both hugs, "I missed you mama." he loved his mother dearly. "Sir." he smiled at his dad, respect was huge for the two of them, especially with his father being a Sergeant Major in the Army. Elliot was raised to be very respectful; he had some big shoes to fill. "How was the flight from Texas?" he asked, taking their things to put in his trunk.
"Better than flying to Iraq." His father grumbled. He was soon retiring after 20 years. He was beyond ready. His age was showing more in the past couple of years.
"You know flying with your dad is always a nightmare." Mary rolled her eyes.
Elliot smiled and chuckled, "Oh I remember." He helped his mother into the car and got in on the driver side.
"Hot ride you got here, son." Charles whistled as he ran his hands across the interior. They both shared a passion for cars. "A real beauty."
"Hard work pays off." Elliot revved it up, his father nodding in approval at the sound. Mary shook her head, playing on her phone, muttering something about men and cars. Elliot always worked very hard to get everything he owned. A great lesson his parents had taught.
"So are we going to meet Lily?" Mary inquired from the backseat. "Tell us more about her." She was wary about any woman his son dated. Like any mother, Elliot was her baby.
"Oh, mom she is amazing. You both will love her." Elliot smiled proudly, "Lily has a good head on her shoulders, went to school for pastry chef, super sweet. But she is shy...she's worried you aren't going to like her." he looked at his mom in the rear-view mirror. "She also just lost her dad."
His mom gasped a bit, his father just shook his head, "That's awful... but from the way you sound, she must be something." Charles looked over at him. Elliot nodded in agreement.
They discussed everything from Lily and her ex to Chase and Zane, work, and everything in between. Except for the baby. Charles was proud of his son for rescuing her from a bad situation. Elliot's grandmother had been in a similar situation when Charles was growing up. The biggest reason he went into the military was to get away from it all. Making their way up to the apartment, the smell of fresh baking permeated into the hall outside the door. "Smells like Lily is cooking." Elliot sniffed the air as they walked in. He set their things down and his keys "Lil!" he called out.
