Today was a rather "special" day: The day I found out that my best friend is a lead of an actual reverse harem. Weird, I know. Hear me out:

It started out like usual: Woke up and did my morning routine. Went to school and waited for the teacher to start class. In the classroom, it was loud like always. Paper airplanes and notes were flying above my head, that one nasty kid flipping skirts, girls chatting, dudes sitting on desks and Nima, my bestie, quarreling with the nasty kid:

-Takeshi! she said. You shouldn't flip a girls skirt! That's very inappropriate!

-Oh please! he replied. You're just scared that I'll flip yours!

He winked while Nima rolled her eyes in frustration.

-Well you won't get the chance today, she said with a sigh.

-Huh? Why not? he asked.

-I'm wearing shorts.

Nasty kid realized that she was and didn't say anything for the rest of the day. Nima interjected while crossing her arms and said: "Jeez, what a kid." She turned to look at me and I gave her a shrug.

-I mean, he is technically a kid, I replied. And so are we.

Nima smiled at me.

-Yeah, your right.

As soon as she finished talking, her other friends called her.

-Oh! I got to go. See you later, Asagi-chan!

She waved and I waved back at her.

Context, Nima and I were friends since the 3rd grade and I'm pretty sure that I was her first one. Not to mention, we were inseparable. She was always shy and quiet, kinda like me, but cuter and softer. She would always wear shorts and caps. To my knowledge, her family was poor and couldn't afford feminine clothes for her. So, she wore her older brother's clothes.

One day, like, a week ago, she came to school wearing a skirt. Of course it didn't match her shirt, at all. It was a weird combination, that's all I could say. All the other kids laughed and snickered, that still didn't stop me from hanging out with her.

But, for some reason, she left early. More like, she ditched me. The day after, she was wearing better clothes. Not gonna lie, she was really pretty. I mean, she always was. I asked her why she left and right then, I regret even asking because I was flooded with apologies.

Sometimes, she'd be ignoring me. Unintentionally, of course. Her eyes were always somewhere else. Next thing I knew, I wasn't her only friend anymore. Everyone came in running and "be friended" her. It kinda made me felt like I wasn't even there. But, she was happy. She didn't talk to me for the rest of the day.

Class ended and Nima came up to me and said: "Let's go eat lunch together, Asagi-chan!"

Before I could say anything, I was interrupted by all the girls squealing. We checked where the commotion was coming from and low and behold:

The most popular guy showed up, Teruki Kurosawa. If you look at him with me side by side, we would literally be legit opposites. Meaning, he's tall, popular, good looking, athletic, a guy, and so on. Basically, everything I'm not, on the appearance. Despite all that, we're both equally mature. By that, I mean how we think, not physically because puberty sure as hell didn't hit me. We're both straight A students. What can I say? I'm smart.

-I'm looking for Nima Ueno, he said.

Everyone was shooketh, including me.

-Eh? Me?

He walked up to her and grabbed her hand. He smiled and said: "Let's have lunch together Nima-chan!"
