have you ever had that sinking feeling before? when you just know that there's something coming but you have no fucking idea what it will be?

like you're sitting there, having a cup of your favorite iced coffee, minding your business and thenㅡ there, you feel it.

you're sure its not the caffeine. you're sure it's not your full name written on a text from your parents or your friends with no goddamn explanation as to why they had to scare you like that.

it's just there: at the pit of your stomach, leaving you uncomfortable for who knows how long until you decide to look around.

you wonder if you should keep it to yourself or ask if there's an explanation for it...

did you forgot anything important? said something that didn't sit well with someone and they just realized it just now? get a new enemy for it?

kim yerim isn't really sure but this bothered her for the entire first period of her class.

"you know what's weird?"

"hm?"

a look, then the girl tilts her head in wonder, "i always wonder why you and jeongguk never spoke to each other. i mean, we've been attending the same school since you moved here. why's that?"

she shifts on her seat, highlighting a sentence on her book and placing a small sticky note on it before turning a page. "we're not friends," she replies simply, nibbling on her lower lip as she skims over the words on her textbook.

"we all share the same goddamn class since 4th grade, yerm. you can't possibly not exchange a single word with him at this point," jisu states with a quirked brow.

yerim looks up from the paperback that her nose is buried on, a firm line painted on her lips. "you can be in the same room with someone and not speak with them if they don't speak to you first, you know?"

at this, the other girl rolls her eyes, visibly frustrated at the blonde's response. she lies down flat on her back, picking at the lint on yerim's bedsheets. "well, i saw him looking at you at homeroom. he's never done that before."

"so, he's being a creep, you mean?" yerim retaliates with a chuckle, "and you're wondering why i don't talk to him."

while she did try to play it off, the younger girl found herself a little intrigued.

and now that jisu did point it out, she's unsure why she's never had any past memories of talking to jeon jeongguk; all they ever did was share the same grade and familiar classmates.

the only thing she could pass of as an indication that they were living in the same dimension is that he sat next to her most of the time in 8th grade because she was the only kim in their class and he happened to be a jeon before somi's.

beside that, nothing.

she thinks that the reason why they never saw each other eye to eye is because they've never fought for the class rank (she knows he's always above her no matter what she does and he's not even at the very top to boot) and that he prefers to stick with the guys at their grade.

that's it.

"why does it matter anyway? for all i know, he could be staring at ryujin. she was sitting at my desk andㅡ"

"she's dating jinyoung-sunbae."

"ㅡ you were just imagining thinㅡ wait. she is? which one?" yerim blinks.

"bae jinyoung," jisu clarifies, then grumbles, "and stop trying to change the subject!"

she laughs lightly, amused at the other girl's determination to unveil something fruitless such as jeon jeongguk staring at her.

as if.

"alright. so, he's staring at me. allegedly. what, pray tell, does that keep you so riled up that you decided to barge in here without prior notice?" yerim prods, crossing her arms over her chest as she eyes choi jisu with her undivided attention.

at this, jisu wears a toothy grin that does nothing but promise kim yerim a massive headache for the next few days.

or more.

"remember what you told me this morning? when you said that you feel like something bad is gonna happen?"

she really didn't want to listen to jisu.

she should remain ignorant since curiosity will bring more questions and she despises  puzzles.

it tends to get her tangled up... tends to get her so engaged to the point that she will not stop until she figures it out.

(why?)

but jisu came into the conclusion that jeon jeongguk was looking at her that morning.

for what reason, she is not sure; however, the brunette did point out that, maybe, her body reacted that way that morning because jeongguk was staring at her like he's just seen her for the first time in his life.

that something shifted and he was looking at things in a different light.

(or maybe, she's done something to piss him off.)

that's why, when the feeling returned that morning, kim yerim doesn't hesitate to look at the back of the room to where he satㅡ only to find jeon jeongguk already looking at her with those prominent, dark eyes.

and before she could even fully figure out why he's doing such, he smirks at her then turns to the guys that remain as oblivious as the class.

yes. this is the product of a writer's block!
