Last Winter's Gift

Chapter 1

...then I got pregnant for Musa who was still a university student. Thoughts of abortion played in my head, I almost gave in to the urge, but still, Musa was keen on me keeping the baby...i'm confused Alimat. Please, what should I do?

Aminat and Alimat met as almost immediately after the assembly was dismissed. Alimat who happened to be a half cast, steaming with an American accent, magnetic enough to attract almost every boy in our school. But still, Alimat that we all knew, was a hard-hearted fellow. The cause of this we all didn't know, although a few of us back then assumed she wasn't getting the right love and care she wanted from her uncle with whole she lived with.

Aminat tried to narrate what she has been holding up in her mind for a while, Alimat was startled, she couldn't believe her ears that Aminat got pregnant for Musa who she warned her and against it.

Aminat couldn't raise her head, she bowed down like a bird trying to spit, Alimat concluded that Aminat is joking "Let's go to class," it's time for first period" Alimat said.

They both left and walked straight to class.

Aminat was depressed, she didn't concentrate to what's happening in the class.
Alimat trying to get her back to consciousness but what's in her mind is even more heavier than what Alimat could have thought.

Exactly 10am,  the school principal Mr. Aderoju, publicly known as Mr. Man came to SS3 class to alarm all the Prefects which Aminat happened to be the Social Prefect, Mr Man alarmed them to instruct the junior ones to tell their parents about the coming visiting day.

This got Alimat thinking of how to confront her uncle, the  class murmured and the principal left.

Immediately the principal left, Tolulope took maker from its spot and moved close to the white maker board, he perpetually drawing on the board, he was drawing a pregnated woman crying and holding her forehead,  all the class were clapping and cheering "they felt great for the art work"

Is it coincident or he overheard our conversation? "Aminat monologuing"

It's closing time, the prefects gathered all the students in the school to the assembly ground, the senior prefect boy addressed the crowd and reminded them of the coming visiting day.

They all left and the school compound was emptied.

Aminat and Alimat couldn't meet again, they both left for their houses.
