Chapter 5 - Dead End?

Charlie's POV

Monday

Still at the hospital

I have so many fucking questions. Is it true?! That Nate is alive? I need to tell Katie about this. I went around the hospital to look for Katie and I saw her at the cafeteria getting something to eat.

Katie's POV

"Hey, Katie!" Charlie said from the distance. Even though his face is still smiling, I can feel that he's really tired from all this. Hey Charlie, why don't you go home and take a rest? "It's fine." He replied. Are you sure? I asked. "Yup, I'm fine." Want something to eat? I added. "I brought some snacks. But I left them in the car. I'll just get it." And there I was left alone staring at him as he goes off in the distance.

While waiting for him to come back, I saw a guy wearing a black hoodie in the distance walking towards the reception. He's tall but skinny. I tried to follow him but Charlie came back.

Did you see the guy? 'Which guy?' The tall one? No. I dragged Charlie with me to go and try to follow the guy, and lucky for us, he was near the room where Sam was. As I peeked the corner, I saw the guy on the phone, and based on the way he moves he's panicking. I was about to turn the other direction towards Charlie's direction but then I heard the guy talk. His voice is deep but understandable.

"So what do we do now? What do you mean loose ends"? The girl is here in the hospital. So I should kill her." Right there and then I knew it's about Sam. I need to tell others.

Charlie's POV

What's taking Katie this long to look at the strange guy? I walked towards her but she came running towards me. "The guy's going to kill Sam. It's what I heard from the conversation." Are you sure? "Yes! For fuck's sake! How would I make this up?" Ok ok, calm down. Call Arthur. I'll tell Ethan about this. Stay here, Katie. She nodded. I then ran to the room where Ethan and Sam were and told Ethan about what we heard. "Bro is everything ok?" I think someone is here to kill Sam. "WHAT!?" Calm down. Here, take my gun and use it if the guy comes here or stay outside to make sure he doesn't come near the room. "Ok. What will you do?" I'll call Taylor and Jose. "Ok, I'll stay put."

Ethan's POV

As Charlie and I stepped out of the room, I'm panicking, so I went back inside again. Someone's going to kill Sam. I knew I need to be prepared. 15 minutes later someone knocked on the door. I was hesitant to go near the door because it might be the guy. Who is it? "It's Arthur." I sighed in relief knowing it was Arthur. Don't worry Ethan, I warned the security of the hospital and the precinct about this. Backup is on the way. Who's gun is that your holding? It's Charlie's.

He said I should take it while he's calling the others. "That's a nice gun." He said. A few minutes later, Charlie came into the room. Thanks, Arthur for being here. I know it's late. It's fine, it's part of my job. By the way nice gun, you got. Thanks, it's custom-made. Hey Ethan, can I get it back now? Sure sure. You two stay here, I'll stay outside to make sure no one gets in. Arthur then leaves.

So where's Katie? She's outside with Arthur. Call her to make sure. Ok sounds better. He calls Katie and answered, I'm fine. I'm just outside the room looking for the guy. Where are the other two? They're on their way. I'll keep on watching Charlie, ok? Be careful. She then hangs up.

Everything's ok I guess. A lot of problems to deal with and it keeps piling up as the days go by. So many questions lead to more questions. Is there any day where I can take a break?
