Modern Monsters

Since young we've faced our fears
Of monsters, unpierced by spears,
That somehow hid from parent ears

Since young we've checked for them
The monsters under our beds;
They made us hide in dread

We stopped.

And we grew up and had our fun
But the fears, they never went

What ever happened to look under beds
to probe for untamed beasts?

They grew and took on form
They changed, and so do we
Now we grow up, ignore our fears
Till they greet us in the mirror
