Adam's POV

I was numb, and I felt like I was suffocating.

I couldn't breathe.

My legs felt heavy as I walked up to the front of the hospital.

I walked into the lobby, and approached the emergency center.

Before I even spoke to the girl sitting behind the desk, I heard my name.

"Adam.."

I turned around to find Cassie's dad, my mom, and I'm assuming, her best friend, Manny, who she's told me about.

I approached my mom, and she pulled me into a hug, as I started to cry.

After a minute, I collected myself enough to speak.

"How did you find out?" I asked my mom.

"Cassie's dad called me." She replied solemnly.

I sniffled, and looked up at them.

"Do you know what happened?"

Cassie's dad looked pained. "The paramedics said she reeked of alcohol when they arrived. She was drunk, Adam."

I wanted to burst into tears again, but I kept my composure.

She was in so much pain over losing the baby, that she started drinking again. I should have been there with her instead of at the studio.

"Adam, do you know why she was drinking heavily? She hadn't done that since her last marriage." Her dad asked, crossing his arms.

I sighed, looking at the three people in front of me.

"Cassie lost the baby." I whispered.

My mom's eyes filled with tears, as did her dad's.

Manny looked shocked. "She was pregnant?"

I nodded.

"Oh my god..." He muttered.

I rubbed my hands over my face.

"I should have been home with her. She said she was okay to be alone. I should have seen through her smile. I can't believe I was such an idiot.."

My mom put her hand on my shoulder comfortingly.

"Don't blame yourself, baby. It's not your fault. No body could have known this would happen." She whispered.

I sighed, and we all sat down in the waiting room.

4 hours later

I was so hungry, but I didn't think I would be able to put a bite of food in my mouth.

We still hadn't heard any news on Cassie. It was frustrating as hell, because I just wanted to know if she was okay.

"You know..." Manny started.

I looked at him.

"Cassie is head over heels in love with you. You're all she talks about to me." Manny let out a small chuckle.

I smiled, laughing lightly. "I'm glad to hear that. I love her more than life itself. I would do anything for her. I plan on marrying her."

Manny nodded in respect and understanding.

"Cassie hasn't had the best luck with relationships. Especially marriage. But I can tell that you would be the perfect husband for her. When you decide to ask her, you have my blessing as her best friend."

"Thank you. Your blessing wasn't what I'm worried about. Her dad is a bit scary."

Manny grinned, "At least he likes you. He thinks I'm gay."

My eyes widened, "Well,

are you?"

Manny laughed, "Of course not."

1 hour later

We were all silent, sitting on the hard chairs of the waiting room.

I felt like I was in a daze, so when I heard my name called, I thought I was hearing things.

But, no, I wasn't. Manny was shaking me, trying to get my attention.

"Yeah?" I answered.

"Mr. Levine?" The doctor called again.

I bolted up, and walked towards him.

"Is she okay?" I asked.

The doctor let out a breath.

"It's indefinite. She's stable, but we had to put her into a medically induced coma. She's beaten up pretty badly."

"I want to see her." I replied.

"I don't know if that's a good idea.." The doctor began, when I felt a hand on my shoulder.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, sir, but this young man has been waiting here for five hours to find out if his girlfriend, my daughter, is alright. The least you can do is let the kid back for a couple minutes." Cassie's dad said, staring the doctor down.

He looked at me, and let out an exasperated breath.

"You have two minutes. Follow me."

I thanked Bill, and followed the doctor down the hallway.

After a minute, we stopped in front of a room.

My heart was pounding out of my chest.

"This is her room." He stated, motioning for me to enter.

I took a deep breath, and turned into the room.

I wanted to break down in tears at the sight.

Cassie looked weak, and broken, helpless.

She was connected to all these wires, and had a bandage on her head. Her eye was bruised.

"She has two broken ribs as well. The reason for the bandage on her head was because of the blood she lost when she hit it on her front windshield. See her breathing? She's alive. She's on a bunch of pain medications, but she might be able to hear you, just not respond."

The doctor told me, and walked out of the room.

I had my hand over my mouth, trying to hold myself together, as I circled her bed, and sat down on one of the chairs.

I didn't know if I could, but I didn't care.

I gripped her hand lightly.

"Cass, it's me, Adam. The doctor said you might be able to hear me. I'm sorry this happened to you. I promise, when you wake up, that I'm not gonna leave your side for one second. I will be there for you more than ever. I love you more than anything, baby. When this is all over, I want to marry you.

You can wake up, and get better. You have people here for you: your dad, Manny, my mom, and especially me."

I felt a tear slide down my cheek.

"You'll pull through. I know you will. You're the strongest, most beautiful woman I've ever met. You can do it.

And when you do, I will be right here.

I love you, Cassie. Wake up soon."

I placed a soft kiss on her hand, and stood up.

I walked out of the room, thanked the doctor, and started to walk back to the waiting room.

I'm not a big fan of praying, but I said a silent prayer.

I prayed to God Cassie would wake up.
