2014, NEW YORK

"HER brain scan is almost identical to Wanda's. She telepathic just like her." Dr Cho stood in the centre of the room holding both Wanda's and Elise's brain scans up in the light. "Is that all she is?" Steve stood his normal stand, brooding shoulders and his arms crossed.

"No, she has more abilities than we imagined." Dr Cho not once took her eyes off the pages in front of her, brain scans and reports. "She can do so much more than what we thought."

"Is she a threat to us? Is there anything we can do to make sure she can't do any of that to us?" Bruce Banner, the newest addition to this conversation about the girl, questioned.

Dr Cho simply shook her head no. "We can't take any precautions without testing every aspect of her abilities, and I can't guess if she is a threat or not, for now, don't give her a reason to use any of these on you."

The daily conversation of Elise was over for now. Steve would leave Tony's office to go find the girl, assuming she was in her room. Steve knocked once before pushing the ajar door open. Elise lay on her side, asleep. Her curtains taped shut in an attempt to eliminate any light source finding its way into her room, failing to do so as a strip of light shone from below the material.

Her walls covered in random pages from magazines, drawings and printed photos. He examined each of the walls finding the same type of decoration.

Steve could hear footsteps coming towards the room. Seconds later Wanda was in the room. "She reminds me of you when you first joined us."

"Yeah, she reminds me of me too." Wanda examined the walls just like Steve did. "She's talented."

Wanda tapped into one of the walls, hoping she could see anything more. "She was programmed to kill and engineered to survive everything and anything, she's strong."

Wanda's eyes flitted from the walls to Elise, "We should go talk to Tony, I want to try and find her family."

"We don't even know if her mother is alive," Steve spoke hushed. "If I didn't have Pietro I would've driven myself crazy, she should have the chance to feel comfortable here and if we can do anything for her it's at least find her mother." Wanda nodded to Steve then walked out of the room, Steve took one last look at the girl before following suit.

——

"Where you going?" Bucky spoke from Steve's bedroom doorway.

"Mission, Wanda and I are hoping to find El's mom." Steve was busy with his suit to notice the shift in Bucky's demeanour at the mention of Elise. "Are you leaving the country or..?" Bucky now stood starlight rather than leaving on the doorframe.

"Starting in New York and if nothing then Sokovia."

"Well have fun, see ya soon." Bucky went to leave the room before Steve carefully questioned, "Are you doing alright with all the sudden mention and involvement of Hydra?" Bucky's expression hardened before his eyes flickered with fear. His gaze narrowed towards Steve's, unyielding, wanting an answer.

Bucky forced a weak smile, "I'm okay, it's hard..." his voice was tremulous, "but I know that this is what I do now, help people like her. I have to get used to it."

"We'll try and get back as soon as possible." Steve smiled as he pats his friend on the shoulder before leaving his room. "I'm proud of you Buck."

Bucky watched as Steve disappeared down the corridor. He walked the hallway with a faint gaze and his arms crossed.

"...selling global chaos with the objective of making humanity willing to surrender its freedom in exchange for security."

Bucky listened to what sounded like the local news channel coming from the room beside Wanda's. He knocked and waited for any interaction. "Come in." The disembodied voice sounded satisfying to Bucky.

Bucky was greeted by the harsh bright light from the tv, "What are you watching?" He already knew.

"I'm trying to watch all this stuff to see if it'll bring any memories back." Elise was sitting cross-legged on her bed.

"D'you like plums?" Bucky still with his arms crossed, ventured from the door to the window. Without permission, he opened the blinds.

"Yeah...I guess."

Silence covered the room like a thick blanket, Elise focused on the tv and Bucky's focus changed between the girl and her entertainment. Bucky stood without purpose. Suddenly the room went silent, Bucky's gaze met El's. "Do you think I'm worth all this? I know Steve and Wanda are on a mission right now, for me. Am I worth it?"

No emotion flashed over Bucky's expression, he thought back to the moment he, himself said something like that to Steve. 'I don't know if I'm worth all this.'

"Do you think you're worth it?" She slowly shook her head no.

Elise dropped her head between her knees as she brought them to her chest. "All I feel is hopeless, I don't deserve the Avengers help. I'm still the bad guy no matter what."

"I said the same thing and look where I am now, we'll always think we're the bad guy because of the stuff we did. Who you are now...it's not who you were back then."

Elise looked up from her saddened state and stared at the blue eyes that stared back. His body now sitting on edge of the bed, hoping to give comfort. Bucky placed his human hand on her knee, "Hydra sucks but now you have a family, us, to keep you safe and that's what our job is."

"Did they figure out my superpowers yet?" Her lips upturned as well as his. "If they have I wouldn't know, but no matter what you can do, it's not going to change anything."

"You are much nicer than Tony let on," Elise said with a lopsided grin, her eyes suddenly flickering with hope.

"Well, maybe I'm not the winter soldier after all." Bucky was relaxed, he even laughed.

Bucky peered his eyes up to Elise after she gave no response, her confused daze confused Bucky himself. "Who are you?" Elise's sudden amnesia wasn't that much of a surprise to Bucky considering.

"Elise do you know where you are?"

Elise didn't answer, she stood up and Bucky knelt down in pain as he held the sides of his head. "Elise wait-" In a second he was unconscious. The girl took one look at the body and left.

AUTHORS NOTE:

I have no clue what this chapter was, I thought I was going somewhere in the beginning but that failed like I'm laughing at how bad the ending is but I kinda love it. There is going to be three 'acts' to this story, I aiming for ten chapters each act to I guess act 1 is almost done.

Love, bells.
