"Alex, this is not a good idea. Your dad is going to absolutely kill you." My friend Marlowe exclaimed for what felt like the millionth time. "It's going to be fine. He did give me permission to use his lab, didn't he?"
I turn away from the mixtures upon mixtures of different chemicals, and smirk at her. "Yeah, because you told him it was for a school science project." I could practically feel her eye roll as I turned back to what I was working on. "It is a school science project."

"Oh yeah? How are you going to explain this. No one even knows who you really are, or who your family really is."

I know she's just looking out for me, because if we're being completely honest here, my dad really will kill me if he finds out what I'm doing down here. However, I feel like telling me that over and over again is a little bit redundant at this point. I'm just going to do what I want.

"What exactly are you doing anyway?" I hear her hop off of the counter and walk over to where I'm working.

"If you stopped nagging me about my dad for five minutes I could tell you." I laugh, mixing the mixture of vinegar water and dishwasher detergent.

Marlowe goes quiet, waiting. I grab the beaker with the mixture in it along with a little packet of baking soda, and turn around. "I just wanted to make a model volcano without the outside." Then I drop the packet in and watch the magic happen.

"You're unbelievable." She rolls her eyes, but I can see a small smile forming.

"But really, I'm going to give myself super powers." I say after cleaning up the mess I made.

"Alex, for the last time, you really shouldn't." She says once again. "But I should Marlowe. This would prove to my dad that I'm perfectly capable of being an Avenger." She just rolls her eyes at me and looks away.

"What would your Mom think about all of this?" I tense up at the mention of her. Marlowe really shouldn't have gone there. "I don't want to talk about her." I mutter

"You should though. I think it would help you out a lot if you actually talked about what happened." It's completely silent after she says that. I continue working though, not letting her stop me with her words.

To be real for a second, I have no idea what I'm doing. Steve Rogers had a super soldier serum, Peter Parker had the radioactive spider, and Bruce Banner had the gamma radiation. I could also always invent something like my dad, but he could take that away a lot easier. So I'm just going to inject stuff into my system and hope I don't die.

"Alex, you need to stop. Your mom would not have wanted this." Marlowe just keeps talking and talking listing all of the cons, and not caring to look at the pros.

"I'm doing this for my mom, Marlowe, and for any one else that needs help." I keep my attention on my work while I'm talking. "Ever since that night I've been thinking about it 24/7. I can't get it out of my head. I lie awake for hours just blaming myself for what happened."

"Alright fine, lets just hope you done majorly fuck yourself up." Marlowe finally gives in
