“r-ryder, i need you.”
“love, why are you crying? what’s up?”
“you remember those two a.m. suicide calls?”
“yeah. he called you?”
“y-yes. i-i don’t know what to do. he came over earlier and went through my phone. he hates when i talk to people who aren’t him or sava.”
“over-protective type?”
“sava calls it possessive and controlling.”
“that’s another way to put it.”
“when he left, he was so mad. and i-i didn’t know if we were broken up or not, so i called him. he wouldn’t pick up. a few minutes ago he called me.”
“what did he say?”
“that he couldn’t live without me. that he wouldn’t. he said he’d rather die than lose me. he said he was actually going to do it this time. i-i tried calling and h-he wouldn’t a-answer.”
“has he ever hurt himself before?”
“no. i don’t—i don’t think so. no.”
“listen to me, love. that guy is toxic.”
“but—”
“no. i don’t know him, but he seems to really suck. he is just going to drag you down. you don’t have to leave him. i would never ask you to do that; just talk to him about whatever is so wrong with him that he has to resort to scaring you.”
“okay.”
“good.”
“ryder?”
“yeah, love?”
“will you stay on the phone with me?”
“of course.”
“thank you.”
“no problem.”
