Miles and I ran through the back streets of the Protected Zone. He hadn't told me where we were going and I had no clue as to what he had planned. If he really wanted us to escape he would have taken me far, far away from here. Not to the heart of the Protected Zone. Miles forced me to stop and he slammed my body against the wall of a nearby building. I stayed behind him as he surveyed the area but I couldn't help but peer around Miles shoulder to see how much damage Viktor caused last night.

My breath caught in my throat as I saw the piles of bodies lying in the streets. I gripped Miles arm tightly as I tried to keep the tears down. All of this was caused because of what I wanted to do. Because I wanted to take Viktor and the Officials down. Miles peered over his shoulder to see that I was crying which caused a sigh to escape his lips.

He wrapped his arms around me and brought him closer to his chest. "I promise that everything is going to be okay. We've just got to do one more thing and we will leave. Are you okay with that?"

I nodded slowly. "Okay."

Miles pulled away from me and took my hand in his, giving it a light squeeze. We darted through the mass of bodies, doing our best to avoid the bodies of innocent people that had died.

We continued to run as fast as we could. Weaving in and out. I did my best to ignore the bodies on the ground but it was so hard. Every time I glanced down I would see someone who had either taught me at school or someone who had lived in the orphan dormitory. I didn't cry anymore when I would see the bodies. Instead I got angry with someone besides myself. Viktor. The grip on my gun tightened. I knew that I couldn't use my abilities on Viktor. After all he seemed to be able to defect my ability.

"Miles, I want to see Viktor," I said.

"That's where we are going," Miles replied.

"Do you know where we can find him?" I asked.

Miles nodded. "I've known for a while."

We slipped into a silence as we continued to trek through the city. It took us a long time to reach our destination but we had finally made it. Miles let go of my hand so that he could get a better grip on his gun.

"What's the plan?" I asked.

"I'm going to talk to Viktor for a bit but you've got to stay in the shadows," Miles replied.

"Why?" I demanded.

"You're supposed to be dead and things will work to my advantage if Viktor believes that you are dead," he replied.

I crossed my arms over my chest. "I should just stay out here!"

"I can't keep an eye on you if you're out here. Besides some of the Officials will be looking for you right now."

I sighed. "Fine I'll stay in the shadows but if things start going bad then I'm saving you."

Miles smiled at me. "I wouldn't expect any other reaction from you."

He turned to face the doors in front of him. He stepped through them and I stayed close behind him. I had never been in this place before and I was surprised to see how glamorous it was compared to the other places in the Zone. We took the stairs instead of the elevator. It seemed as if we were climbing the stairs for hours but in reality it was a couple of minutes. We stepped out into a hallway and we made our way towards the end.

Miles placed his hand on the door handle. "Stay on the other side of the door."

"Okay," I whispered.

Miles opened one of the doors and left it open. I pressed my back against the door that was closed and peaked my head around the corner to watch what was happening.
