When I got back to the dormitory I went straight to the showers first and washed the blood out of my hair before Emily could see it and question me. Seeing the blood in my hair would send her running to Tom with the details, spinning some sort of lie about how I got it. It felt nice to have the warm water rush over my body and it helped me forget about what I had done tonight. I stayed in the shower until the water ran cold. I climbed out and quickly changed before darting through the hallways towards the room I shared with Emily.

I pushed the door open to see that Emily's lamp was still on, a sight I hadn't seen since my first night of training. I crept cautiously into her room to see that she was sitting on the edge of her bed with someone beside her. His dark blonde hair was messed as if he had just woken up from a long night's sleep and his grey eyes stared at me with an eager expression. Tom Davidson was sitting in my room. I turned my attention to Emily to see that she had her lips pursed as she took in my appearance. I knew that she would be wondering why my hair was wet but she would have to wait for the answers she wanted. I looked back at Tom to see that he desperately wanted to speak to me but I destroyed all hopes of him speaking up because I had a question of my own.

"What is he doing here?" I asked.

"I invited him here," Emily replied. I rolled my eyes at her and made my way towards my bed, not in the mood for a fight with her tonight. "What? Aren't you going to yell at me for having Tom here? Don't you feel like it tonight?"

"Oh sweetheart I want to but I'm too tired to deal with you tonight," I said.

"Why? Is Miles working you too hard?" Emily sneered.

"If you mean sex then no," I snapped. "He's just a friend and that's how things will remain between us."

A deep laughter caused me to turn around and I found Tom laughing at me as if I had just told him the best joke he has ever heard. I narrowed me eyes at Tom. He did not intimidate me and I was going to show him that I wouldn't take any of his idiocy tonight or any other night.

"I find that hard to believe," Tom said.

"Well you better start believing," I snapped. "If you've got the balls then maybe you should ask him yourself."

Tom got up from beside Emily and walked towards me. "There has to be a reason as to why Miles Winchester is so interested in you. He wouldn't have just picked any gutter rat up from the streets."

Anger surged through my body as the insult registered in my brain. I clenched my right hand into a fist then brought it back then forward with rapid speed. My fist connected with Tom's nose, creating a satisfying crunching noise. I dropped my fist back to my side and watched as Tom clutched his nose, howling in pain. Emily was by his side and she tried to comfort him but he shoved her away from him.

"Tom, do you need me to take you to the hospital?" Emily asked.

He shook his head in response. "No, I'll fix it. I'm just going to the bathroom to clean the blood up and fix my nose and I'll be back."

Tom sprinted out of the room and Emily watched after him with a pout on her face. I took this opportunity to change into my pyjamas and slide into my bed. I turned my head to see Emily spin around to face me with an angry expression. She marched over to my bed and grabbed my arm in an attempt to drag me out of the bed but she was too weak.

"What the hell was that for?" she demanded.

"I don't appreciate people calling me a gutter rat when I'm better than that," I replied coolly. "Keep in mind that he probably has a nickname for you too."
