'How about this one?' Khalaty asked holding up an ugly light purple coloured dress.

'Mama, I would never want to be seen wearing purple, especially...on my wedding,' I told her and Yazaar's mother and sister laughed.

His mother placed her hand on mine and smiled gently. 'Don't worry, you will find the dress,' she told me and I smiled faintly. She kept her hand on mine and gently rubbed her thumb against the back of my hand. Whilst khalaty browsed around along with Yazaar's sister, I took my phone out and typed with my left hand since she still held my hand. She started humming and kept rubbing my hand.

My eyes stung and my vision blurred due to unshed tears. I stood up quickly and walked to any dress at random.

'How about this one?' I asked and his mother stood to examine the dress.

'It's beautiful, go and fit it on.'

I did as told and walked to the fitting room. The dress was perfect and beautiful, yet quite pricey and the major disadvantage was that it was tightfitting meaning that it had exposed my curves. I imagined my mother's reaction, she would have gently told me that it was not right to wear something of that sort whilst my father would have handed me the baggiest and ugliest dress in the store and tell me that it looked beautiful on me.

I smiled fondly and walked outside after I had put my hijab back on.

'Ma Shaa Allah,' aunty Alya said after giggling.

'I don't like it,' I said examining myself. I did not like the fact that it was tight against my skin even though the designs of it was beautiful.

'But you look so beautiful,' aunty Alya told me and I blushed. 'Shukran but it is too tight aunty.'

She had this certain look on her face as she smiled and nodded before gesturing someone over.

'My daughter-in-law is looking for something halal. Show us something that isn't as tight and definitely something that is not purple.'

I chuckled at the way she put emphasis on a few words and widened her eyes at the woman.

I changed into my clothes and headed out to see khalaty, Yazaar's mother and sister speaking about something secretively.

'What's happening?' I asked and khalaty waved it off before suddenly getting excited when the woman approached us with a sheath pink dress along with a red kaftan and a yellow kaftan thob over her forearm.

I took the dress from her after thanking her and just as I was about to head to the dressing room, I turned to his sister and asked,'Would you like to join me?'

She had seemed taken aback for a second before she nodded hastily and followed me.

'Hint of advice, Yazaar's favourite colour is purple.'

I shrugged and sassed,'He will have to deal with me disliking it then.'

I liked the red and yellow but my favourite ended up being the sheath pink dress.

'I like this one,' we said simultaneously before passing each other a look then laughing.

'Okay, so you should clearly take this one...' she said and seemed hesitant before adding,'Let's not show ummi and your mother how you look in it just yet. Let it be a surprise.'

I had agreed with her and took the dress off before going out and handing the two other dresses to the lady whilst Zainub distracted our mothers.

'I don't want my mother and mother in law to see the dress that I chose so can you hide it?' I asked and she smiled before going to the back.
