We ate in silence. The only sounds were the scraping of knives against the glass plates and occasional "Pass the salt." I picked up the last piece of steak off my plate and stuck it into my mouth, chewing loudly to avoid silence. "Madison. Chew with your mouth closed." my mom says, and looks me in the eyes. I nod. "Sorry mom. Just trying to avoid silence you've created." I grab my plate and go to the sink and rinse it off. "You created this Madison. If you didn't sneak out, we wouldn't have silence." Mom calls to me and I laugh in reply. My phone buzzes in my pocket and I jump from the noise. "Maddie. Quit jumping around." Kenzie groans and piles steak into her mouth. "Okay. Okay. Why are we even fighting anymore?" My mom asks and looks at us. "Because I snuck out after I was tired of Kenzie being a brat and you grounding me." I say with a fake smile and pull my phone out. Mom rolls her eyes and finishes her plate. I skip up the steps and open my window again. I sit on the roof and wait for Josh. "Hey Maddie." He mumbles. "Hey there. Why do you look so mad when you are here at my house?" I spat, not realizing how mean it sounded. "Because you are a liar. I freaking hate that about you! All you do is lie! Kenzie didn't apologize, you did! You lied to my sister to make your sister look better! You crushed my sister and broke her even more." Josh replies, irritated. "Wha-what?" I reply, stunned by his cruel words. "Oh darling, go buy a personality. This ones old." He states and puts a piece of paper in my hand. "Goodbye Maddie." Is all the paper reads. My heart stings and burns. My eyes fill with tears as he goes off down the street. "I hate you Hyland!" I scream at him and go into my room, slamming the window shut. I finally let my tears fall down my face as I crumble the paper into a ball. "Maddie? Are you okay?" Kenzie says and piled into my room, followed by Maliboo. "No. Go away." I cry out and fall into my bed. "Maddie. Tell me what's wrong." Kenzie persists. "No!" I yell and she just hugs me as I pull my knees into my chest.
