For the last 3 days, I followed Oka Ruto around the campus. I still attended the club and participated in the activities but I leave early to check up on her.
She followed a simple routine which surprising involved Ayano. Her role in Oka's schedule seems to be just a messenger. I heard them once, something about someone waiting for Oka. Upon following her to the meeting place, I saw one of the occult club members. I think his name is Shin Higaku. He was the one managing the Occult Club when Oka was not present. What caught my eye though was Ayano's presence. My plan for the day was to talk to her about it.
"Yan-chan?" I called out to her as she plucks a rose in one of the bushes. She immediately turns around and lowers her guard when she sees that it was just me. "Its just you... Do you need something (Y/N)-chan?" She asked me. "Its about the Occult Club's leader, Oka Ruto-san." I started, the name grabbing her attention. "Since Monday, I saw you talking and asking her to go to a place. She then meets up with Shin Higaku-senpai there." All her focus was now on me as I continued. "She talks with him for a while and then leaves. What I find weird there is your involvement. Not only do you guide Ruto-san to the meeting place, but you are also present in her conversation with Higaku-senpai, hiding as they talk. What's the reason for that?" I finished with a question.
Ayano was silent for a moment, trying to find an answer on the question. "You'd make a good detective, (Y/N)-chan." She commented before she answers my question. "I don't think he'll appreciate me telling this to somebody but if you really must know... I'm helping Higaku-senpai win Oka-chan's heart." Ayano straightforwardly answered. "Oh..." I exclaimed after. "Its really nothing serious, just helping a guy get in a relationship with the girl that he likes." She "justifies" her reasons.
"Why are you interested them?" Ayano returned me a question. I debated for a while in my head whether or not I should tell her and the answer came out as a yes. "I'm a bit worried about her. With the accidents that happened in the past couple of weeks, I guess you can say I'm growing paranoid." Ayano nodded at my explanation. "That's understandable. You don't have to worry anymore though." She assured me. "What do you mean?"
"I can watch over her since I'll be helping Higaku-senpai." Ayano suggested. I think for a moment but then she speaks once more. "And remember our little arrangement?" She reminded me. I... have no more information to give to her so that reminder was actually needed. "If you can't give me anything, its all right. We can skip for the week." She told me to guarantee that it was fine. I shake my head and deny. "I can probably get something if I talk to him now—" "Actually, I want to talk to you about something else." She cut my sentence. "What is it?" I ask her. Ayano was about to speak again but she remembered that she still needed to matchmake Oka with Shin. "Meet me at our meeting place after school. I'll talk to you then." She told me before she went back inside the school building.

After leaving club early, I went to our meeting place. When I reached my destination, Ayano was already there waiting for me. "Hello." I say as I sit down beside her. "What did you want to talk about?"
"...tell me, what do you see love as?" Her words were questionable and definitely not what I expect from her. "I've seen Ruto-senpai think of it as something like a curse, something that makes you suffer. Her association with her club might be an influencer though. I see it as a blessing. Without my Senpai, life is meaningless to me. I wanted a third party to tell me about their thoughts. You're in the same situation as me so I thought of asking you." She continued.
"Well..." I said as she looked at me with in suspense. "I think its just based on the person. Some consider love negatively, like Ruto-senpai, while others think of it positively, like you." I spoke, acting like somewhat of a mediator. Ayano nods in understanding. "I guess that's somewhat true... What about you though? What do you see love as?"
"Me?" I echoed. She nods again. "...both, I think. Its really troublesome sometimes but the feeling when I'm around someone I love is amazing, to say the least." I said my answer and reasoning. After a bit, we say our goodbyes and leave.
As I was about to go home, someone calls out to me. It was Suni and Tsuka. "(Y/N)-chan! You going home? Wanna come with us?" She asked me. Seeing no harm in doing so, I agreed.
"So, what's making you busy?" She inquired about half way to our homes. "Uh, well..." I started and leaned into her to whisper my answer. "I see. Well, since that was it, we really didn't have to worry about anything!" She said in a louder volume, enough for Tsuka to overhear. "So you'll be busy for a while because of that?" She asked once more. "No, its fine now. I've dealt with it already." I said, not mentioning Ayano. "Oh, okay. Goodluck with that." She commented. After that topic, I notice her exchange a glance at senpai and smirk... Is she purposely trying to make him jealous?
