Spectrobes: Earthborn (Female Hero, OC)

Chapter 3

Raven's P.O.V.

   "...He's probably come back." Jeena says, and I glance at her.

   "Did you say 'Krux'?" I ask warily, and Jeena gives me a look before nodding.

   "Yes. Why?" she asks, suspicious. I shake my head.

   "Nothing, I was just wondering..." I trail off. So...he became leader of the Krawl...? I wonder, and Komainu looks at me sharply, a questioning look on his face. Rallen and Jeena exchange worried glances, and I sigh. "Look, it's nothing, okay?" I assure them, and Rallen shrugs. 

   "Okay." he says, and Jeena gives me a look before sighing. Rallen lightly hits her arm. "Oh, lighten up, will ya?" he teases, and I see a smile on Jeena's face. 

   "Whatever, Rallen." she says in mock annoyance. I shake my head, amused. Jeena looks at me. "Anyway, as I was saying: He's most likely come back to destroy again." she says, and my mom, who had remained silent this whole time, clears her throat. 

   "Take care of my daughter--and...Raven? Beware of your...abilities." she says, and pulls me into an embrace. "Be safe." she whispers, and pulls away. I walk outside, turning to give my mom a wave, but she already closed the door.

   "Huh?" I wonder aloud, confused. Whatever, not a big deal...I don't think? My thoughts wander back to the mention of Krux, and the events of today. Something doesn't match up, and I want to know what. 

   "Raven? You in there?" Rallen's voice cuts into my thoughts, and I look up to find myself almost nose to nose with him. 

   "Whaaah! what the heck, Rallen?!" I exclaim, falling backwards onto my butt. Rallen starts laughing, and I stand up with a huff. "Grow up, Rallen." I mutter, annoyed.

   "Rallen, Raven--we've got a problem. There's an off the charts reading of Krawl not far from here!" Jeena exclaims, and I call out Aobasar. 

   "We're gonna need you girl." I say, then yell at Rallen to bring out Pegatinum for himself and Jeena. He nods, and the winged horse materializes for him. I climb onto Aobasar's back, who responds with a screech. 

   /I smell the Krawl on you--in you. I'll fight for you, but don't expect me to trust you./ she says, and I nod.

   "I won't make you do something you don't want to--remember that." I say, and get an annoyed squawk in response before the great bird takes off into the sky. I spot the strange black vortexes not far from the Cornwall; a mall in the Downtown area. 

   "Raven!" Rallen cries. 

   "I see it--be careful! There's a large number of lives at risk here!" I respond, turning to face him. He nods, his face grim, and leaps off Pegatinum. I face-palm. "Aobasar, take me down! those Krawl are gonna get a strong shot of whoop-ass!" I cry, and the great bird swoops down, letting me jump off before returning to my Prizmod. I glare at one of the vortexes. "You're goin' down!" I screech, jumping into it. 

   The Krawl are oblivious--they don't even see me. I use that as an oppourtunity, bringing out Leozar.

   "Okay, boy--we're gonna wipe 'em out." I whisper, and the Spectrobe gives me a look.

   /I don't trust you, but these Krawl are gonna destroy everything if i don't fight--even if I'd rather not./ he mutters, and I groan, which alerts the Krawl to our presence.

   "Ah shit, they've noticed us..." I mutter, and barely dodge an arm, er...tentacle...whatever it is! "Leozar, get 'em!" I yell frantically. He nods, and I dodge yet another Krawl attack. I back up, fear crawling through me. 

   /Use your weapon, doofus!/ Leozar barks, and I jump to avoid another Krawl.

   "Well, in case you haven't noticed--I HAVE NO WEAPON!!!" I scream, and end up getting thrown back by one of the Krawl. I struggle back up, groaning. "No way am I gonna let them hurt innocent people...No...the Krawl are gonna die!" I bellow, and a surge of energy courses through me.

   I jump into the air, instincts taking over, and make a slashing movement with my arm. A blade of light flies forward in a curving arc, slamming into the Krawl and killing them--if they were even alive in the first place. What did I just do...?

   Right then, exhaustion takes over, and I slip unconscious. The last thing I hear is Rallen calling my name before I black out completely.

   "She'll become my heir, she will destroy all who oppose me."  a masked man wearing a long, tattered cape says. 

   "Leave her out of this! I beg of you!" another voice says, and though the owner of the voice is out of eyesight, I know it's my mother.

   "Silence, you useless woman! She will obey me, or she will die." the man bellows, and vanishes in a cloud of dark mist, laughing maniacally.

   I wake up with a start, terrified.

   "No...I won't." I murmur, clenching my fists.

   "Won't what?" Rallen asks, walking through the doorway. "I see you're finally awake--Leo here's been worried about you."  he adds, and a Leozar--my Leozar--pokes his head into the doorway.

   /Hey, you alright?/ he asks gently. I nod, and i see relief in his eyes. /Aobasar came out of the Prizmod at the last moment--she saved your life, but refused to let Rallen touch you. I had to tell her that you'd be fine before she'd let him come anywhere near you./ he adds, and I glance at the Prizmod on my wrist. 

   "Aobasar, could you come out here?" I ask, opening the Prizmod and bringing her out. She ruffles her feathers in annoyance.

   /Hmph! didn't even wait for an answer, huh?/ she huffs, and I can't help but laugh.

   "It's not like you'd be able to answer from in there." I point out, and Rallen gives me a look. 

   "Hold on--you can understand what they're saying?" he asks. I nod.

   "Yeah--can't you?" I ask, surprised when he shakes his head.

   "No, but I know what they want and when--just not as if they're talking." he tells me, and I turn to Aobasar. 

   /Look, I still don't trust--/ she stops, letting out a little squawk as I wrap my arms around her, burying my face in her feathers.

   "Thank you, Aobasar..." I whisper, and pull back. Her eyes are wide as saucers, and I can hear Leo suppressing a laugh. I smile, feeling genuinely happy for the first time since Him.
