||<Eren's POV>||
I dragged Annie with me by her sleeve into the giant forest that surrounded the arena. Then there was a terrifying scream that came from the center of the arena. That scream made me want to run even further without stopping.
It was the first time, me, hearing such a terrifying scream. It kept echoing in my head. And I know; that's just the beginning.
I didn't realize, or hear, that Annie was telling my stop. I was too busy in my own thoughts, and didn't realize I was hurting her by my tight grip. So I let go of her.
She wanted to rest for a bit, while I wanted to find somewhere safe. But then I realized that nowhere is safe. It would be foolish enough for people to think that they'll be safe in a specific area.
I think they completely forgotten that sooner or later, someone will find them; And have no other choice but to kill them.
Annie kept telling me to breathe and calm down. How could I? Our lives are being at risk right now! At any moment, our lives could be taken away. I just don't want to risk it.
"First, we need to find somewhere high so they won't be able to reach us easily" I said.
"How about let's find some food first. We can't do this on an empty stomach" she suggested. And it convinced me.
Eventually, we ate. We were able to find some red apples that were growing on an apple tree. Although I didn't trust it, or felt right. I was too hungry to even care.
Then, it was night time.
We haven't encountered anybody yet, at least not yet. It's been quiet and calm....but too quiet and calm.
I have a feeling that something not right.
"Eren, how about up there?" she pointed at the tree. It was tall, big and thick, "Perfect. Tomorrow, we move west" I said. She nodded in agreement.
Annie carefully climbed the tree. After she made it to the top, and sat on a thick branch that was strong enough to hold her.
I scanned at my surroundings, making sure we weren't followed, or being watched. When I thought it was clear, I started climbing. Until I heard something behind the bushes.
It immediately caught my attention and quickly pulled out my sword. This person wanted to take me out while I had my back turned. Oh, I'm going to prove him or her wrong, they're just messing with the wrong District.
My body was ready to fight. I waited for whoever was behind the bush to come out and fight me.
"Come out and fight, you bastard!" I angrily said.
Nothing.
After waiting for a couple of minutes, nothing happened. But I wasn't going to let my guard down.
"Eren, hurry" she quietly yelled.
When I put down my sword a few inches. The noises were heard behind the bushes again. I held up my sword again, but this time, something finally came out of the bush. And it wasn't a person.
It was a squirrel. A damn squirrel.
I sighed in relief at the thought of no one's life was in danger at that moment.
I put down my sword, "It's a squirrel" I informed Annie. I heard her sigh in relief. I quietly laughed it off. Eventually I climbed the tree and sat across from Annie.
