-Dean-

Pulling my new baby into the school parking lot, I parked the black impala in an empty parking space at the back of the lot. There was no to draw unneeded attention to ourselves on the first day. Getting out of the car, I handed Sam his back pack, befor throwing on my own pack and began heading to the front of the building. I decided to have a quick look back at the parking lot, none of the cars were expensive, which meant we wouldn't stand out as poor kids in a school full of rich students.

"Ok, Sammy... Let's do this!" I told him with a fake smile, knowing that I couldn't fool my brother into thinking I was excited about school. "Come on, Dean. We have done this before. I don't know why you're always worried about it." Sam told me with a confident tone, "And I've told you, don't call me Sammy." This time I gave Sam a real smile, knowing much he hated my pet name for him. I opened the big metal doors and quickly ushered Sam inside. The halls weren't as crowded as I feared they would be. Clearly this wasn't a large school, and for that I was extremely grateful!

Before I could make comment about this to Sam, he looked at his phone and realized he would need to rush to get to his first class in time. "Crap! I'm going to be late if I don't leave now, I really don't want to be late on my first day." Sam told me as he checked his bag for the slip of paper the Principle had given him to hand to his teacher. "Nerd!" I said, Sam smiled and waved goodbye, leaving me to try to find his way to class. I decided to that I wouldn't rush to get to my class walking slowly around the halls for a few minutes before I finally found the class room. Of course it would have to be the subject I had always despised most... Math.

Opening the door I walked up to the teacher, handing her a piece the paper telling her about me. "Listen up everyone. We have a new transfer student, his name is Dean Winchester. Please make him feel welcome. And you..." She said looking at me with an evil glare, "Don't you cause any problems in my class!". "Of course not." I said with his usual cocky smirk, knowing that I couldn't always help myself "I would never think of it!" I decided to her a wink, turning and walking away from her desk. 'Time to find a place to sit' I whispered to myself as I started the search for the perfect place to sit.

Being the new student so many times did have it's advantages, because no one knew who I was... I could be anyone they wanted me to be. Experience told me that if I wanted to avoid problems I would find the most popular kids and make myself a part of their group. It was pretty easy because I'm good looking and I have never had a problem finding a few chicks to pick up. Looking around quickly, I saw a few empty chair scattered amongst the students. There was a chair in the middle of the room between a girl who was obviously a cheerleader and a football player. I knew this was where I needed to go if I was going to make the smoothest transition possible. A few of the students looked at me with interest and the cheerleaders started smiling at me as I walked over to sit down in the empty chair.

But something made me look around the room at the other seats, I didn't see anything else of interest, when I spotted a boy in the back by himself in the corner of the room. He had dark hair and light skin, but it was the sad expression on his face that really caught my attention. Never before have I seen anyone look more lonely than this boy did at the moment. Looking at him, my thoughts drifted to Sam... what if it were him sitting there sad and alone like that.

My heart was broken for this boy and my protectiveness kicked in. Thinking for a few moments, I made a decision that might change my status in this school forever. I walked past the smiling cheerleader to the back of the room, and sat down next to the boy.

I stole a few quick glances at the boy while the teacher was writing on the chalkboard. He had was wearing a navy suit with a blue tie that seemed to be loose on his extremely lean frame, but what stood out to me was the tan trenchcoat that showed signs of heavy wear. The boy was drawing in his notebook as I leaned over to introduce myself.

"Hi! My name is Dean Winchester..." I said, giving him my brightest smile possible. The boy looked up from his notebook with startled expression, then he gave me a frowned. "You shouldn't really shouldn't be talking to me." the boy said with a sad tone, "you're nice for trying. But clearly you fit in with the popular kids, and talking to me will just hurt you." I couldn't help feeling slightly rejected as the boy looked back to notebook. What is with this guy?! Why didn't the boy see that I was just trying to make friends with him?

Before I could talk to him again, the teacher started her lesson. Time seemed to move extremely slow as I just sat there trying to process the everything that Ms. Garrett was trying to teach the class. After what seemed like an eternity, the bell rang to signify the end of class. I must have nodded off, because I looked up and the boy was staring at me with an amused smile.

Looking over I could see the boy quickly stuffing stuff in an old brown sat hel. "Well... Are you going to tell me your name? It's only fair since I told you mine." I said before the boy could run off. I gave the saw the boy my determined look. "Castiel... Novak." he told him with a small smile.

'Castiel Navak' I said to myself over and over again, I decided that I really like his name.

"Well Castiel... it's nice to meet you. How about we sit together at lunch? I haven't met anyone and if you'd like... I want to sit with you.". Castiel must not have been expecting me to ask him to eat lunch with me, he took a few moments to ponder what I had just asked. "Sure Dean. I usually sit with sister and brother. But it would be nice to sit with someone who isn't related to me." Castiel as he picked up and shouldered the book bag, "but I wasn't joking earlier... You really don't want to be my friend.

"I think that's my choice to make. And I have decided that we are going to be friends. So you might as well suck it up and get used to it!" I told Castiel while giving him my biggest Dean Winchester smile.

"I've never had many friends before..." Castiel said with tears in his eyes, "not in a long time. But I think I can be friends with you." I wanted to hug Castiel and make him feel better, but someone would give me grief about it later... and I didn't want to start off by kicking some jerk's ass.

Suddenly, I realized the class room was empty, and while I would be more than happy to stand there taking to all day, I knew we need to get to our other class. I decide to find out if we would be having anymore classes together, I really liked hanging out with Cas.

"Before we go..." I said pulling out my class schedule and handed it to Castiel, "I want to know of we have any other classes together."

I watched him look the paper over and smile, Castiel pulled out his own list and showed it to me.

We had almost every class together, except for english... which happened to be my next class.

"That's awesome. We can sit together... If you want" I told Castiel, handing him back his schedule.

"You don't have to... But that would be cool with me." Castiel told me with the shy smile that I could tell came natural to him. "Great!! I'll walk you to your next class and you can text me so that we can meet up for lunch." I told him.

Grabbing my backpack I pulled out an ink pen and piece of paper, writing down my cell number. After handing him my number, I grabbed my backpack and walked to the door, holding it open for him. We made small talk down the hall, he said nothing that told me anything about him. "Well... here's you class." I told him, "text me anytime you want."

Castiel gave me that shy smile of his, before waving and heading into the room. I turned with a smile on my face and started walking to my next class, wondering what it was about Castiel that I couldn't He was a good looking guy with the most beautiful blue eyes that I have ever seen, But I knew that he must be dealing with stuff at home by the way he avoided any talk about himself or his brothers and sister. I stopped at the door classroom, before I opened the door I made it my mission to find out everything I could about my new friend Castiel.

Author's Note:
I'm sorry that this book might seem to be moving slowly. I promise to pick up the pace soon... I just wanted to give Castiel and Dean enough time to really get to know each other, I want them to establish their friendship before moving into something more. Please feel free to offer advice and suggestions! This is my first attempt at writing... I know it's sloppy.
