Victoria was sitting on the Hogwarts Express in the Prefect Carriage.  When she had entered Ethan Rosier had subtly invited her to sit next to him, instead she had chosen to sit with Romilda.  When Victoria had shaken her head enough at Ethan, he scowled, crossed his arms and sat with Julia Abbott and Travis Purcel, the two fifth year prefects from Hufflepuff.

The Head Boy and girl sat in the middle of the compartment.  Victoria looked at Draco Malfoy the Head Boy smartly.  She remembered her feelings about him as Harry Potter – prat.  She hadn’t had any negative emotions about him since.  She remembered how he protected her and a few others from the Weasley twins and Ron Weasley in their first year.

Once everyone was settled in Draco smirked.  “Well, we need to get started, because we need to have you all out there patrolling, watching out for trouble.”

So, Draco introduced himself and the Head Girl – Mrs. Lisa Turpin.  He had each of the other prefects, introduce themselves, their year and their House.  Then, he laid out the schedule for patrol during the train ride to Hogsmeade.

“At this time,” he said, “You will break up into houses.  The 7th year prefects will each have final instructions for your duties tonight.  Tomorrow after the lunch, we will hand out the Prefect schedules.  Meeting adjourned.”

Victoria smiled at Romilda, patted her hand and walked over to Blaise and Pansy who were giving the instructions for tonight.

“Congratulations, Avery and Rosier,” Pansy drawled, “for making Prefect.  We continue to expect you both to do amazing things.  Now, this is how things are going to go tonight.  After the Welcome Feast, Ethan, you will call for the Slytherin first years to assemble by you.  Victoria will lead them down just outside of the Common room.  You will give the speech.”  She stopped and looked at her.  “You do remember the speech?”

Victoria nodded smartly.  She didn’t try to give a look of disgust, but unsurprisingly Ethan did.

“What’s the problem, Rosier?”  Pansy growled.

“It’s just that –“ He began.

Blaise cut him off.  “Rosier,” he said with a look filled with daggers.  “The traditions of Slytherin House are important.  That is something that it is our job to impress upon you as the 7th year Prefects and Head of Slytherin House.  You need to get a little smarter, because right now, you are floundering.”

Ethan looked down, clearly upset by the reprimand.  Victoria stared straight ahead without any change of expression, keeping the Pureblood disinterested look that she had learned in her time at the Avery Household.  Besides, she was the Ice Queen of Slytherin.  With Daphne gone she was the one all would look to for fashion, gossip, and so on.

Pansy looked at the two of them once more.  “Very good, Avery,” she said, then she turned to the sixth year prefects.  “Blaise and I will be waiting in the Slytherin Common Room, having set up the password with Professor Rosier.  You will lead the second through seventh years to the Common room, give them the password and assemble everyone for the lining up of the First Years.  Victoria will move them as we point them out.”

Again Ethan nearly squeaked.  “Victoria’s been given –“ but Pansy cut him off.

“It is clear to everyone that Victoria knows how to take herself seriously without silly infatuations to cloud her judgment,” she hissed.  Ethan slammed his mouth shut again.

Then she looked around at the Prefects.  “It is up to you, but you may sit here in the Prefect compartment with the Head Boy and Girl or you can go find a compartment with your friends.  Make sure that you don’t miss your turn to patrol.”  She handed each of them a slip of paper.  Victoria looked down at it and it stated.  Patrol time: 11am to 12pm.  She quickly noted that Ethan would be patrolling with her.
