You, Marcus and Willie are standing in a dark room. Suddenly Master Lin walks in.
"Marcus Lopez Arguello, Willie Lewis, Y/N L/N. You have failed this test. Do you know what our expulsion constitutes?" He says as he stops in front of your group. He holds up a piece of paper with a big F on it.
"I-I don't understand why you're so pissed." Marcus says.
"You murdered an undeserving man." Master Lin says calmly.
"That's not true! He met the requirements!" You say.
"I've slept in the same alley as that guy for months. He told stories about shit some other guys did during the war. But last night he slipped, said he was the one who torched the village. We heard him!" Marcus says.
"You had absolutely no evidence of this. And we have been unable to verify any of your stories through our black stream channels. On the contrary, he was a decorated war hero who landed on the streets purely through misfortune and substance abuse. You've ignored our very simple instructions and shown that you are inept. Inept or willfully disobedient. Either way, you now face severe punishment." Master Lin says.
"Master Lin, this is bullshit." Willie says.
"Are there any details of this botched assignment you would like to make aware of, Mr. Lewis?" Master Lin replies. "Drug use? Did Marcus act alone? Without consulting you? Or Ms. L/N? This might reduce both of your punishments by helping me choose your partner's."
"We did it together." Willie says. Master Lin stares at Willie for a long time.
"You are free to go, Mr. Lewis." Master Lin says. You watch as Willie walks out without a backward glance. Master Lin turns to you and Marcus. "A week in The Ditch for both of you." He says then leaves the room. Monks escort you and Marcus to a dark room with a single chair in the center.
Marcus wouldn't talk or let you near him. He would just sit against the wall or on the chair and stare at the floor. At night, he was barely sleeping. After a couple of days, he finally started to open up. You were sitting against the wall, when Marcus sat next to you. He laid his head on your lap and you started playing with his hair. He started to talk.
"I kept reliving it. Kept seeing Rory's body in the purple goo that came out of his head. I couldn't stop seeing it, Y/N. I bashed a helpless old man's head in." He whispers. He starts to cry and it's the first time you have ever seen him vulnerable. His body shakes with every sob. You keep playing with his hair and he starts to calm enough to continue. "I thought about what would happen once we came back without completing the assignment. About how he was gonna send someone to kill us and I couldn't watch someone kill you."
"It's okay, Marcus. You're okay. I'm okay. We're okay." You whisper. He slowly stops crying. "I'm right here. See? I'm okay." You say. He sits up and throws his arms around your waist. His head rests on your chest and you wipe away his tears. Slowly he relaxes and falls asleep. Soon after you fall asleep with your head on his.
"Heya, jailbirds. Or should I say lovebirds?" You wake up to someone saying. You look up and spot Saya standing in the doorway.
"What are you doing?" You ask her.
"It's what we are doing, and we are going on a road trip." She says with a smirk. You lightly shake Marcus.
"Wake up." You say. He groggily raises his head to look at you. "We're gettin' out of here." You say, smiling.
