Chapter 2
Taking a jump start out of my window, I shifted, heading towards the dense forestry near our broken orphanage building.
It was called dark forest for a reason, dense with shrubs, roots, bushes and trees the height of a skyscraper. It made running hard. But my wolf was agile with attuned senses as she twisted between branches and jumped over bushes. She was also very lithe and quiet, a natural predator in her habitat.
We were alert of our surroundings while trying to cover as much distance as possible. I don't want to get caught, specially at the hands of royal pack, The Lunar Pack.
They were a deadly bunch, royals for a reason. There tolerance for petty rogues were low, so why were they coming after us was a wonder in itself. Unless they knew...
I ran faster, a blur hard to see with normal eyes of a human. It was needed, I bet they're already on our trail.
My wolf was starved, so was I but couldn't afford to stop. Run run run.
It was also hard to blend in our surroundings, we had red fur all smooth and shiny with stark blue eyes, the color of ocean, same as my human. We could be tracked easily so unique with our features, I haven't seen anyone like us before in the werewolf realm. But we were also agile, fast and could sense danger from miles and miles away.
And it was coming our way at a rapid pace. Kudos to the strength of royals, my bunch of mutts couldn't ever keep track of me.
My wolf rolled in the mud while running covering our scent with that of nature, trying to blend in as much as possible.
It was getting dark but it was better to keep moving throughout the night, they were fast approaching, I could feel the vibration of their paws hitting the forest floor. It echoed. Birds flew from their place in the branches, animals hiding in potholes, sensing the approach of fierce predators moving their way.
We were going to get caught, Jose.
My body screamed with exhaustion and hunger, lungs begging to take a breather. Adrenaline rushed through my physique, breaths coming out in puffs. They were behind us, growling. There were three of them, I could sense it. The thunder of their paws the only sound in eerie forest other than their fierce growls of warning to stop and my rapid breaths. It was flabbergasting the speed and strength of who they were.
My breath left my lungs when I collided with the ground harshly, tackled by one of the royal enforcers. His sharp canines at the ruff of my neck, his growls echoing in my ears vibrating my whole body. It was a warning to surrender. I still writhed with my aching limbs and pounding heart, ain't going down so easy.
Damn it, he was heavy and I was nimble but I still struggled with all my might, knowing it was impossible to escape now. He continued to growl, hoping to subdue me. Idiot.
" Tom, get off the female. Shift both of you." A male spoke but with my face shoved in the mud, I couldn't see anything. Fucking Tom had me in a vice hold.
I struggled some more hearing him, letting out a muffled growl and getting mud in my mouth in the process. I'm gonna beat up this mutt as soon as he releases me, my wolf agrees for once.
" Stop struggling shewolf, we're not here to harm you. Shift immediately or otherwise we would be forced to take action, under the enforcer act of non compliance."
It's most likely the bunch was not aware of what transpires in the orphanage or they wouldn't be so civil. I'd probably be long dead. My wild wolf disagrees, eager to taste their blood. But she's a mutt for a reason, going on what instinct dictates. We will have to be strategic about this.
I stopped struggling, laying motionless. Tom slowly moved off me, his chest rumbling with warning growls. He shifted, moving to stand besides his comrades.
I turned to face them, they were all naked. Standing with a wide posture with their muscular arms crossed, their beautiful faces void of any emotion. An army of four enforcers, through and through.
I shifted, keeping my eyes on their every movement. Two of their jaws tightened slightly, a vein ticking slightly in Tom's neck. Unmated.
I willed my body to relax, but my mind was on full alert. Run run run.
" What's your name, shewolf?" One of the mated wolf stepped forward, I recognize his voice. He was the one throwing commands earlier. The others remained motionless, observing.
" Josephine."
" Why'd you run?" He had slight accent, I can't pinpoint what it was. He was the most built out of the four of them, standing at 6'3 with beautiful baby blue eyes. He was handsome alright. All of them were. All werewolves are.
" My wolf became uneasy with your presence. So I ran." They had the instincts of predator with threatening vibes that could be felt for miles by any prey. But they probably could also feel my dominating nature, everyone within a second would know I was no prey. This femininity was a cover, a mask most stupid wolves would see despite their instincts screaming at them. But they were a formidable force of nature, nothing crosses an enforcer's eyes.
" The other group of orphans, why'd they ran?" I shrugged.
The four of them moved in sync towards me. The commanding officer right in front of my face, " I, Bryan Larce, right wing enforcer for the Force Frontier Operations of King Nixon Lawrence, arrest you in suspicion of an illegal offence unknown to the King Of Lycans, King Nixon Lawrence, and under the enforcer act of non compliance of a peaceful interrogation along with the charges of non transparency in your admission." The other two moved behind me and clasped my wrists in handcuffs, one of them holding on to arm.
Bryan looked down upon me with piercing eyes, face wiped of all emotions. A sigh left my lips. Fuck. My . Life.
