Chapter 3

"Jose, do what you must",  the one fucking time my wolf agrees to my unconventional methods, it couldn't be executed. Not without resistance that would result in my arrest again and far worse consequences than this.

"I know it's been a rough few months wolf but I'm sure you're not hard of hearing nor of vision. The two of them are fucking mated"

"It's been a year, Jose..." she whispered in my mind. There we go again. Her fucking pity party in 3, 2, 1...

"It takes one to know one. You don't have to live like this. You're free. And so strong willed, you won't let me out."

I huffed. "If you're so desperate, then go ahead. Take fucking control."

Instead she slowly faded in my mind, favoring to reside in my unconscious. Yep, go where you belong.

"I'm going to ask you again. Who are you, shewolf?" Bryce, the right wing enforcer asked. Whatever that means.

I preferred to remain silent. Better know your foe before attacking...or negotiating. Whatever maybe the case.

"Your silence would be evidence used against you in court of justice. And it would upheave the charges you face furthermore."

"I maybe illiterate, enforcer. But only your king with autocratic admissions have a court for silence demonstrated as resistance and non obligeance when there are far worse recurrences in our world. I wonder what your capable team is doing here, wasting your precious time when you could be working on several issues prevailing, directly related to your king..." his face shuttered, a blank slate in place. But Tom wasn't made of stone yet. His face flickered with emotion briefly, glancing my way with panick.

They've heard. Probably of the recurring incidences. Probably of the rumors. But not that instance. Or the arrest would've been different. My mutts were not that neglectful, afterall. One should gave them credit where it was worth, my mutts were loyal. Loyal to their Luna. And probably escaped successfully, if another set of enforcers aren't behind them.

Silence ensued after that. They knew I wouldn't gave. Probably worst decision I've made in my entire life. That's why I was so reluctant to be considered a Luna, even for a pack of gutter mutts. I'm not capable of taking care of myself or my wolf, how was I to take care of other devoted followers?

Bryce grip on my arm was firm and steady, his walk fast but easy. They were watchful, alert of their surroundings but their demeanor was relaxed. We tread through the quiet forest, it was as if even the birds took flight. Aware of the most dangerous predators amongst them.

It felt like an hour when we reached a roadside with two SUVs parked on the curb. Bryce and Tom huddled me inside the car while another guy took the driver seat. The fourth one started the ignition of the other car. Their stride didn't falter, their moves practiced. As if they knew what the other person would do.

"Where are you taking me?" Hoping they'd answer. I need a plan, dammit.

"You are in no position to question our authority given your current circumstances." Bryce again. He was the leader, also mated. And hard to gave information easily.

They were trained, alright. Because I haven't yet found people who could portray indifference to my presence so easily. Two of these unmated enforcers twitch though, their postures stiffened. One went to drive in the other car while the other was right beside me. Tom. But since the situation couldn't be exploited. He was only proving to be an annoyance.

I sigh. Well. Might as well restore your energy, Josephine. I closed my eyes, stretching my neck to the headrest. Willing my mind to stop whirring for a while. Till an opportunity arrives.

The guy driving was alert as well, glancing from rearview often. As if I can escape. Or maybe he was worried for entirely different reasons. Do they view me as siren? Wouldn't be surprising given the tales that have floated and reached my ears often times. I chuckled. Good times.

Tom stiffened further. "I'm not going to bite you, Tommy boy. Relax." I'm sure he wasn't afraid of my canines rather distracted by me in general. Even though Bryce did lended me his shirt to cover my nakedness after shifting, when they not so gently shoved my muzzle in the mud.

Some time passed before I started to drift off. It's probably going to take a while before we reach where the king resides. Probably sooner if they decide to take a plane. From my hometown. From Montana.

As if hearing my thoughts, we entered through rickety gates to a runway. Long stretched with a private jet at disposal. Ready to take off. Rich bastards.

And what in the world was this place. It certainly wasn't an airport. Where were they taking me? Where do their king lives? Werewolves were deprived of this knowledge for unknown reasons. Only a selected few close to him must've know. Like these enforcers.

Their driver exited the car, talking to two people standing near the plane. They noded and went inside the plane. The driver jogged back, opening the backdoor of the car.

And suddenly Bryce was nudging me to exit the car. I slithered behind Tom. Bryce at my back. They squished me. While the driver stayed at front. They fucking wouldn't leave any opening for escaping.

And then they started to move me along. Look around Jose, take notice. Look for escape. But there was none. I was stuck. I was outnumbered. And even if I manage to deter their hold and escape somehow, where would I run? It was vast open land. They would catch me immediately.

Revisit and revise. Play along. As if there's any other option.

The group tagged me into the plane. And before I knew it, we were airborne. They were so efficient.

The puzzle that won't fit, essential to my survival was why they were going to such lengths on such baseless rumors to capture me and bring me in front of the most influential werewolf court.

Even if they knew what I've tried my whole life to hide, it couldn't be that important of a crime that king's direct men were assigned to me.

No. It must've been the tales that surrounded me in the mountains. Maybe my mountains weren't the only place that those tales were whispered. Somehow they were transmitted to these enforcers, and they deem those tales important enough. That's why they were there.

Unless they were already there due to some other reasons. But the news would've reached me. They were my mountains. And my mutts were loyal.

Dreadful realization made me aware of people around me. My body tingling with the reality of who I was. Never purposefully. But I was a threat to these royal assholes. I was the queen of gutter rogues, of mutts and reside with them right in the core. I was the pack leader through and through. They knew. I am a threat to the kingdom, however nimble do I seem. But my mutts would rise if I wish and it wouldn't deter the kingdom but it would affect their numbers, their image, their narcissistic ways.

Revulsion rose in my throat, for my own race. A strong emotion after a long time. My wolf stirred from sleep.

Bryce took a long look at me from across my seat. Tom rubbing his arm slightly. They were uneasy.

I stared right in his eyes, he glanced away. Whatever sophisticated ranks they pull, luxuries they splurge on, positions they earn, their instinctual fabric, their wolves would dictate the social hierarchy. Who they are.

And who am I, my thoughts bitter. "Luna, Jose. Luna." My wolf whispered.
