chapter two
hyungwon
the male was peacefully writing his essay. it was nighttime and he had to hand it in the next day. it was slightly difficult for him to focus on his work when his neighbours were playing loud music under him. he had been complaining about their all-night parties for some time now, but did they listen? no. instead, hyungwon just got attacked with questions like:
"hey, handsome. wanna join us?"
"wanna drink?"
"why not stay for a couple of minutes, huh?~"
the male obviously declined every single invitation. he wasn't into drinking and stuff like that. actually, he doesn't understand the thought of why you want to get drunk. you'll either end up doing something you'll regret, or you won't remember a single thing the day after. but he couldn't say that he didn't find it amusing when people do embarrassing stuff. but he could never think that he would be so dumb and actually do something like that.
ring ring...
hyungwon's head jerked to the side where he found his phone slowly vibrating to the rhythm of the melody. a loud groan left his mouth as he lazily wrapped his hand around it. it was minhyuk. minhyuk usually never calls the other male if it wasn't anything urgent. it made him slightly uneasy.
"hello? hyungwon?"
the person on the other line was rather fast with his words. but it wasn't surprising. it was minhyuk after all.
"yes, minhyuk what is it? i'm kinda busy at the moment so make it quick."
the other line went quiet for a moment. it almost seemed like he was hesitating with something, considering the sound of him breathing suddenly vanished after a deep inhale. a few seconds later, a sigh left his mouth and he finally spoke.
"hyungwon. this is serious... hoseok was in an accident a week ago..."
after the word "accident" left minhyuk's mouth, everything seemed to fall apart. his mind went blank as he felt the room starting to spin round and round. the phone suddenly became light weighted, causing him to almost drop it flat on the floor. words were stuck in his throat, making it painful for him to let sounds come out.
"i-is he okay?"
hyungwon didn't seem to be the type to actually stutter, but when he did, he would usually hide behind he hands and get embarrassed. but that didn't matter to him now. he wanted answers. he wanted to know hoseok's condition. was he alive?
again, the sigh lingered in his ears. unconsciously, his hands started to tremble. the pain in his eyes started to double up.
"he doesn't remember anything from last year, hyungwon."
after those words pierced into his ears, the male immediately stepped out on his balcony, needing fresh air. on his way there, he also ended the call with a quiet goodbye and thanks for calling him.
he knew that hoseok wouldn't remember him. they met a year ago and hyungwon left seoul to continue his studies. all of that happened last year.
but somewhere in him, he was still glad that hoseok remembered the others. but that's not surprising because they've only known each other for 5 months.
the phone was moved aside as he powerfully gripped the railing. his cheeks suddenly became all wet and sticky as he let out screeches. he didn't care if anyone heard him, he only wanted to let his emotions free and make them vanish into the cold breeze, and never return. small whimpers also left his throat as he felt the warm tears only speed up and increase. the pain in his throat became worse and worse every second he started to whine about hoseok. the male had his head lowered all the time, but in the end, he decided to raise his head.
the nighttime was indeed beautiful. the eiffel tower was very much visible for everyone near it. the golden lights shone brightly from a distance, and it seemed to cover almost everything. but in hyungwon's vision, everything was cloudy, and the view only seemed dull and colourless. the memories of him and hoseok were surrounding the whole tower, which caused his eyes to become watery once again.
they, after all, met each other there for the very first time.
his thin arm found its way to his face, wiping away the hot tears. the male strolled back into his apartment and quickly grabbed his suitcase.
"i need to get back."
