Don't Bite Me

There's always something difficult about being different. The world was made and filled with all kinds of life. One of the most dominant species being humanity. Now... What if in a sea of humans lived two that were not only different from the rest, but from each other as well...

"Be careful at school today, Felix. I forgot to wash your beanies this weekend,"Felix's mom shouted from the kitchen. The Aussie hummed in response, rushing out the door, and pulling his hood over his head and fluffy orange ears. He was fairly late for his first day of school and had already spent enough time digging through piles of papers looking for his homework. His beat up sneakers beat against the pavement as he snuck beside the late school bus and leapt on top. Normally, any other person wouldn't have even caught up to the bus much less reached the top without being pulled under or something.

Felix was almost like any normal teenager. Almost. Much like two shapes being similar, but not quite congruent, the boy had a few slight differences. The ears atop his head and the fluff ball at his behind. That, and his bunny-like reflexes (along with some other perks like his jumping). He was a hybrid and the only one of his kind.

Once Felix made it to the school campus, he sprinted up the stairs and made it just in time for the tardy bell to ring.

"Just in time, Felix. Please try to make it to class sooner tomorrow. You wouldn't want to ruin your perfect attendance that you've kept up since freshman year," The teacher stated, waving her hand towards his seat, signaling him to sit down for the lesson to begin.

20 minutes into the class and Felix was already feeling off. There was this strange presence in the corner of the classroom, but he was too afraid to glance back. Whatever it was, it didn't bring anything beneficial to say the least.

"Excuse me miss, but I'm not feeling very well. I must have caught a stomach bug this morning. May I go to nurse's office?" Felix asked, raising his hand. The teacher nodded her head dismissively. He was quick to jump up from his seat, grab his things, and rush out of the classroom.

Felix wasn't entirely sure why he thought leaving the class would make the pit in his stomach go away, but it seemed to have worked for awhile. That was until he reached the nursery. Once he passed through the door the feeling came back and he jumped on one of the beds and quickly shut the curtain. Then, a shadow appeared against the cloth surface and Felix's heart began to race. Suddenly the curtain was pulled back to reveal...

"Oi, Felix. You doin alright mate?" His classmate, Chan (if he could remember properly), was standing tall over the bed awaiting a response. The bad feeling dissipated as Felix stared at the source of the shadow.

"O-Of course, I-I'm just a bit light-headed that's all," Felix whispered shakily. He sighed in relief and plopped down so that he was laying flat on his back against the mattress.

"What are you doing here anyway?" Felix asked, squinting up at the other.

"Ah, the teach sent me down to see that you got to the nurse's office alright," Chan responded, his aussie accent showing through now that he was in the comfort of talking to one of his own. Felix nodded his head, adjusting the hoodie that had started to fall down.

"Ya know. You're not supposed to wear your hood in the building. Wouldn't want you to get in trouble," Chan stated, leaning against the wall next to the bed.

"The principal can bite me," Felix mumbled. Chan choked on his spit and started to chuckle.

"Whatever you say. Well, I should probably head back to class. I guess I'll see you around sometime."

"Right," Felix whispered in response when the other Australian had already left. The hybrid rolled over and decided to take a nap until school let out.

Felix covered his ears as the bell rang loudly through his head. It was finally the end of the day and even though he had slept the entire time, he was still tired. Perks of staying up all night, I guess. He stood up, grabbed his stuff by the door and decided to leave for his long walk home.

He turned to walk out of the room when he felt something stick in his shoe. Upon further inspection, it seemed to have been a spare needle. What kind of nurse just lets these things fall on the ground? As Felix tried to pull it out, he lost his balance, fell, and ended up pricking his hand with the needle.

"Just great," Felix sighed, removing the needle and proceeding to leave the school.

Felix was about halfway home when the feeling from earlier suddenly returned. This time rather than avoiding it, the hybrid decided it was finally time to confront what had made his day so sour. His ears perked up as he began to smell his surroundings and try to sense the exact direction. There was a narrow alley between two buildings a few feet away from Felix and he could have sworn there was something moving back there.

He cautiously padded towards the corner and swiftly looked around it. Nothing. Felix grunted in disappointment for wasting his time on something so stupid. Maybe he really was sick. As he turned to continue his journey home, he felt something tug against his arm and suddenly he was up against a wall. Felix's knees started to shake and his entire body was trembling.

When he looked up from the ground what he saw wasn't what he was expecting. There stood his classmate, Chan. The only difference is he seemed paler and his teeth... sharper? Chan leaned into the hybrid's hand and bit down on where the needle had been earlier. Felix squeaked in pain and tried to shake the other off of him. He leaned into Felix's neck and started to nibble right above his collarbone.

"Ch-Chan, please don't bite me," Felix whimpered as he squirmed against the other's grasp. The older of the two didn't seem to be listening and just sunk his teeth into his flesh. Tears streamed down Felix's face as he cried out. Just when he thought he was done for, Chan suddenly pushed away and stared at him wide-eyed.

Felix glanced back in confusion. That was until he realized that his hood had fallen down and his rabbit ears were still standing. Although, they soon flattened against his head when his mind caught up to the situation. As soon as Felix realized what had just happened, he let his feet carry him as far from the scene as possible.

"Felix, wait!" Chan shouted, but the hybrid had already made it several blocks away...
