Kurt/Asmund
Kurt Elizabeth Hummel was proud of who he was, even though he never actually acknowledge it.
Contrary to what some people think, he could've stopped himself from wearing the clothes he does at any time. He just chose not to because it would mean his tormenters would win and Kurt was many things, but a victim wasn't one of them. There was a difference from being victimized and a victim, after all.
So he bought designer clothing, put on his makeup, had his nightly and morning skincare routines, and held his head up high everyday as he silently fought against the discrimination and constant hate crimes of being who he was.
(He would have gone to a lawyer, but considering how his biological family likes to keep tabs on him, Kurt decided against it. It wouldn't do to have the entire population of Lima, Ohio disappear because he couldn't deal with some bullies by himself).
But there were some things he couldn't deal with, and seeing his adoptive father and former crush bonding in a way he and Burt never could was one of them.
He loved the man like a father, he truly did. After all, it takes a heck of one to be comfortable with their son going to their blood family for every school vacation to spend some time with them. Especially since they were loaded to the point it wasn't even funny.
Kurt always had to reassure his father that he doesn't think less of him just because he couldn't afford some of the things he desired each time he comes back practically glowing in happiness from his time with them or when he uses his trust fund they set for him since before he was born.
The past three years, though, the two of them have been getting distant, even more so then before. Ever since Riley left for college.
Riley was Burt's biological son from his marriage with Elizabeth, his late wife.
Elizabeth was informed that she couldn't have another child after she gave birth to Riley, so when the boy was five and begged for a baby sibling, Burt had called up a favor from an old friend and soon enough got custody of a two year old whose earlier life looked funky, like he was taken.
Burt had admitted that it gave him pause, as a kidnapped baby left in an orphanage after it the person committed the crime suggested that the family it had before had enemies.
But he also said that he and Elizabeth had taken him in the moment they laid eyes on him, saying that it was almost right.
It was also the moment he'd decided that if the people who took him away came after Kurt (the two renamed him after the adoption as he was left with only the date of his birth) would think twice about harming his son.
(The opportunity came three months later when the couple woke to a man's scream and found Riley staring wide-eyed at the unconscious man he electricuted when the boy saw him standing over his baby brothers crib with a knife).
When both Riley and Kurt heard it, they both agreed to do whatever it took to not only find his family but to also be stuble about it. No need to bring in more danger then he was already in.
Their search didn't last long, because two months after they decided to look for them, the family came to them.
Kurt loved the attention and care his blood family gave him, especially since it meant for his eight year old mind that he had two families that cared about him.
He had even found out that his birth name was Asmund Eluf Mikealson. The first meaning Divine Protection, that he would always be safe even when they weren't there -which was pretty accurate, considering the amount of attacks the Hummel family went through for his behalf- and second meant Eternal Heir, because ALL his aunts, uncles and parents were considered a leader in one or another.
He had love both his families even more when they gave him a choice to relocate to his place of birth or stay in his childhood town.
It took him a few days, but a young Kurt/Asmund had decided to stay as he already made friends.
And the rest was history.
The two families, because of Kurt/Asmund, began to interact with each other. The Mikealson's were there for every occasion, and in turn, so were the Hummels.
They were there when Elizabeth died. They were there for every single one of his Riverdance performances. For when Riley won his athletic competitions. Even helped Burt get his shop up and running when he was losing customers for having a gay son.
And in turn, Burt helped calm down some of the still more temperamental Mikealson's, like Kol or his father. Riley was elated to find out that he got three new sisters through Kurt/Asmund. Paulina, his half sister from his mother, and twins Lizzie and Josie, from his father wife.
As for Kurt/Asmund?
He was beyond happy!
Those next few years for him were a dream, one he thought that could go one forever.
But dreams like those never lasts.
It started with Riley going off to college and with Paulina and the twins in a boarding school, and his family staying in New Orleans to clean house, so to speak, (i.e, killing off every single enemy they had left to ensure their Princes safety) that left no one to translate between the two men as they began to realize just how different they were without anyone there.
It hurt, more then Kurt thought was possible.
So he thought it was time to continue to expand the family and introduce him to Carole Hudson. He saw the same and knew he made the right decision for the man who raised and protected him in everyway he could.
He knew about Finn, but by that point he was completely over the boy after having a talk with his Aunts Bekah, Freya, Elena, Bonnie, his mother Hayley and his sisters. (It was humiliating that it took that many people to get him to realize that Finn wasn't for him. The only good that came out of it was that none of them are going to tell his grandmother, greataunt, grandfathers, father, uncles, or brothers).
What he didn't realize was how well they would bond. He knew Finn had many the same interests as Burt but didn't think about it because... because...
Because subconsciously he knew he would be left out of the cold. He was smarter then that but ignored it until it was slapped across his face.
That, and the constant bullying at school, his biological family's legacy weighing down on him like Atlas holding the world on his shoulders.... It became too much.
So he ran. Ran as far as he could, as fast as he could, tears running down his face, destroying his makeup, until finally he became too tired to keep going and collapsed.
Then he was pulled up and knew he was screwed when he saw the sadistic faces of some of the boys at school, as well as some older men, and thought
No,no,no,no,NO!
Then his name once again became accurate that no matter how in danger he would be, or how much of an atheist he was, someone up there was looking out for him.
